They have placed scientists on some god-like pedestal. It’s no different that the soothsayers of old. By proclaiming their unfailing belief in science, they present themselves as astute, educated and elite, far above those right-wing rubes who actually look at the scientific data and question the conclusions. Question everything does not apply, unless they disagree with it. Scientists are scientists until they start meddling in leftists dogma, like gmo and ddt, then scientists are just in the pay of whomever.
Profit, corporations, growth and the wealthy 1% are evil and anything that promotes those has to be opposed, hence global warming becomes the meme because it fights against all those and more. That’s why they could care less about the data and refuse to believe anything otherwise. This can be confirmed by reading the comments of just about any article at HuffPo.
