New research published in Nature Climate Change documented the amount of heat leaking out of major cities and how this heat adversely impacts global weather patterns.
The Fight Against Climate Change Needs a Retrofit – News Watch
So UHI has a large impact on weather thousands of miles away, but Hansen says it has essentially no impact on local temperatures.
And TPeel wonders why we think they are completely FOS.
Because they are completely FOS!
There was research about UHI changing weather patterns some years back.
UHI is really a misnomer as the Urban effect is more like a Bubble. I was able to observe this “Bubble” in So Nevada and when traveling to the Los Angeles region. It is very easy to see if you are above the layer that forms over the region. I experienced the Bubble expanding as Las Vegas population grew.
The Urban Bubble affects the rain patterns, just like mountain ranges, they create rain shadows.
There is NO weather event linked to human population. UHI is not a population event. The majority of the human population live in poverty which have no effect on their local temperature.
Airports have urban heat island, it must be all the poor people booking flights and flying from one cardboard box to the next.
UHI should be redefined as IHS, Infrastructure Heat Source, as structure as small as roads and parking lots can heat the surrounding air.
