Earlier today I showed that two metres of sea level rise is an idea for the severely brain damaged. Now Hansen bumps it up to eight metres.
Future generations face sea-level rises of 18 to 27 feet, extinction of 30 percent to 50 percent of animal species and other catastrophes if carbon-based fuels continue to be used at the same rate as today, a climate scientist told a group at the Santa Fe Institute on Thursday. James Hansen, physicist, astronomer and adjunct professor at Columbia University’s Earth Institute, said average temperatures have risen eight-tenths of a degree centigrade over the last century, and efforts to stem climate change will be ineffectual as long as fossil fuels remain the cheapest form of energy.
Climate scientist proposes steep energy tax to help curb global warming – The Santa Fe New Mexican
I added the eight metre line on to the graph. Hansen is a world class wanker.
Data and Station Information for SANTA MONICA (MUNICIPAL PIER)
Hansen is being clever not to attach an expiration date to his prediction. The nebulous ‘future generations’ could be thousands of years in the future.
On the other hand, because it is nebulous, ‘future generations’ could also mean 20 years, as in the next generation. Since Hansen has declined to provide an expiry date, the public is free to do it for him.
Hansen predicts up to 27 feet of sea level rise as soon as 2035.
Hansen actually wrote a paper – not peer reviewed – that argued that sea level rise could remain ‘apparently’ stable for a long period of time and then wham, it all suddenly goes to hell… Exactly when I’m not sure. I suppose it all rises at once starting on year 2099. 😉
Did the paper explain the reason for the sudden increase in sea level?
Presumably due to the sudden catastrophic melting of all of the Earth’s ice.
Of course, such a prediction is going to be apparently correct for most of the time, until the last minute, by which time most of us will no longer be here.
It’s main purpose was to argue that everything could appear stable when really it wasn’t. Basically another version of his ideas about tipping points…
He predicted even more than that before:

Hansen isn’t stupid, he’s insane!
He is completely insane.
Basically, I suspect he is jealous of the recognition and rewards that his colleague, Robert Watson, gained as a result of his work on the “ozone hole problem”, Montreal Protocol, IPCC, etc. etc.
Hansen has spent his life trying to manufacture a similar “emergency” so that he follow the same career trajectory and bask in the same limelight.
It’s a vicious circle – the longer this scam drags on, the more desperate he becomes, and the more outrageous he becomes in cooking the books.
It’s like watching a poor remake of the “Caine Mutiny”
When I rearrange the letters in his name,
and shake the H out of it,
It spells SATENN.
Hansen needs serious medical help.
A long long rest at some nice quiet institution where the understand the damages of failure would help him recover.
Perhaps a long stint at Greenland Summit, or the South Pole (because apparently there’s no ice at the north pole) would be good for him.
3-4 years in a lovely safe warm white walled place and all the meds he wants.
If it wasn’t so insane it would be funny.
The graph is – frankly, hilarious.
Keep up the great work exposing the abject, relentless bullshit of AGW.
Yes, that’s my reaction. Lol hilarious, a joke. It’s so funny though that I almost forgot to laugh. In fact that LA line should be flat — flat out flat — since at least the 1960s, because people see, in person on beaches, that there has been no change. Not 15mm of change, no change. Santa Monica Beach… is the same as it was, in 1970. Up and down the CA (and the whole world, I’ve heard) coast, it’s the same. Malibu, the same. Big Sur, I know, because I’m familiar with the (big) rocks of a particular beach, and I did a tide calibrated check: 1972 (I used to tidepool fish, and pay attention to the tides and tidepools) / 2010, the same, exactly. Yeah, the line should be flat, but the “data” says otherwise, there are “adjustments” for… what? No adjustments from reality. There’s been no change. Flatten that sea-level line out.
The tide gauge is strapped to the Santa Monica pier, which is sinking.
I was going to say, like my first girlfriend. But I refrained.
Is this her?

LOL, I wish she was strapped to a pier. 🙂
I wish. Shiny Datsuns? Or Dachshunds? Roller skating on Santa Monica Blvd with their shiny Dachshunds. Willit ever change?
Do I hear 10 from anyone? Brewski? Appell?
Those true believers shall not challenge the Lord Hansen their god.

I will give you 250M! + or – 250
Did he say where all this friggin water was coming from? You might get that much from Greenland melting but that’s suppose to take 3000 years.
Some places will get there faster than others:
“JAPANESE CITY SINKING
According to predictions made by a Japanese geologist at the general meeting of the Imperial Academy, Osaka, the largest industrial city in Japan will, in process of time, sink below sea level. For nearly half a century he has been studying the levels of the Osaka district, and he has concluded that the ground is sinking at the rate of four centimetres a year along a fault line that runs through the city.”

Hansen, quite patently has lost what few remaining marbles he had.
SL, is basically a very uncertain harbinger of any portent.
Crikey, measuring SL in an area with a very active tectonic plate interface and is a seismological Mexican bean – is ridiculous – after all LA is on and part of the Pacific plate and it’s moving on.
You heard what Hansen said so –
OK men. Get out there and melt that ice.
‘obamba phone’ people will believe this kind of science, and they are told that We are the reason their dear leader cannot finish his work to safe the planet.
Reblogged this on pindanpost.
“The tide gauge is strapped to the Santa Monica pier, which is sinking.”
A few decades ago they discovered the Pentagon was sinking (what a suprise, a massive mass of concrete built on a river flood plain). So they decided to bore underneath it and “shore” it up with more concrete. Result; now its more massive and it is sinking FASTER. Unless “you didn’t build that” on bedrock, or it’s less massive than the sand/dirt it’s sitting on it’s gonna sink. Just a question of how fast.
Cheers, Kevin.
Physicist? Impossible.

The silence of the trolls. Ya, it happens on a lot of Steve’s posts, and it means something. With one ounce of introspection they would realize they never wanted to be on a team of such pretend
scientist. They would loudly denounce such nonsense. Their silence means something.
Climate porn has made Hansen delirious.

With budget cuts looming, the boys who cry wolf now feel the need to increase the volume, and cry ‘tiger’.
Spellnig mistake!
The graph caption should read: “Hysterical Sea Level Rise …”
Has Hansen started building a boat and gathering animals yet?
Many other religions have great floods in their theology.

“sea-level rises of 18 to 27 feet, extinction of 30 percent to 50 percent of animal species and other catastrophes if carbon-based fuels continue to be used at the same rate as today,”
1) Jim, do you include ocean species as animals?
2) Jim, can’t the land-based ones just move up slope away from the sea? I look down long shorelines and beaches and don’t see any animals. They seem to be already adequately high and dry.
