The climate only warmed for 17 seconds between 1981 and 1998, but aside from that, there has been no warming since 1940. Would you spend several trillion for repairs because your car stopped at a light for 17 seconds?

Captivated by the CO2-causes-warming theory, the AGW alarmists continue to be mesmerized by the short-term warming trend of 20th century — a trend that just as easily could be explained by solar fluctuations or oceanic oscillations or even poorly sited thermometers. The Warmists continue to ignore geologically significant time periods.
As Alberto Miatello, independent researcher in the field of physics of the atmosphere/meteorology, observes:
“Before leaving the topic of climate, it might be interesting to examine the bigger picture. When the temperatures of the various warm periods of the current interglacial, the Holocene, are examined using data unadjusted by the current data handlers, it is apparent that, from the Holocene Optimum, Minoan Warm Period (WP), Roman WP, Medieval WP, and Current WP, each successive peak temperature has been lower than the last. This suggests that the Earth is slowly sliding toward the next glaciation and renders meaningless the alarmist projections of constant warming for 100s or more years and even a permanent warm state.”
The earth is getting cooler, not warmer.
I don’t know if these cooling and warming trends can be explained scientifically. The science doesn’t seem to be up to the task right now. There is lots of scientific speculation, though. The central eco-worrier argument is that it must be CO2 because there is no other explanation (that convinces them). That’s such a dumb argument it’s embarrassing. In traditional sceptical circles it’s a logical fallacy called An Argument From Ignorance.

Your climate car has run out of gas, Scott. The ocean cycle forcing has turned down, it caused about 40% of the temperature rise over the IPCC’s preferred period of 1906-2005. And the Sun is also losing her magnetic mojo, which caused another 40% or so of the temperature rise last century.
Which leaves just enough warming left over for CO2 to explain the rest if climate sensitivity is as Lindzen measured. Funnily enough this explains the temperature trajectory in the last couple of decades just about perfectly. Isn’t it just amazingly amazing?
