Hong Kong Braces for Super Typhoon Usagi – WSJ.com

Super Typhoon means winds over 150 MPH. Is 121 greater than 150?

The United States’ Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) unofficially classifies typhoons with wind speeds of at least 130 knots (67 m/s; 150 mph; 241 km/h)—the equivalent of a strong Category 4 storm in the Saffir-Simpson scale—as super typhoons

Usagi is expect to weaken to a category 1 storm before it makes landfall.

Heck, they still call it hurricane Sandy! Worse they still think it was a super hurricane caused by globull warming errr climate change.

Having read the article earlier today, I recall that the Philippines and Taiwan earlier recorded winds from that storm (don’t recall if they were sustained or gusts or even both countries) above 150 MPH. Perhaps that is why the reporter(s) used the super-typhoon label. But being an ol’ fart, with an age-muddled brain I might be wrong. And being an even lazier ol’ fart, don’t care to go back and check.
But I do definitely remember, after reading the article, I surmised this must be a Reuters scare piece and scrolled back up to check the source. I was shocked to note it was the WSJ, which typically does not sensationalize weather remaining relatively skeptical of CAGW.

Regardless, Usagi, or Odette if you prefer, is a bitch and no doubt the warmanistas will be using this storm as political fodder to ‘support the cause man’.
I feel for the people of that region and only wish the WSJ wouldn’t have supplied ammo to ‘the team’ by trumping up this storm as a seemingly rare event in those latitudes/longitudes.

The Huffington Post is running an article titled No, Arctic Sea Ice Has Not Recovered, Scientists Say. Other similar stories are seen on google news. As far as the deceiving press, this is what we are up against. No, the Arctic has recovered, check the two photos in this article and that is obvious: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2415191/Global-cooling-Arctic-ice-caps-grows-60-global-warming-predictions.html

Long time reader, first time commenting. I see Drudge has the headline calling it a “Hell Storm …” I’ve been thru many hurricanes (including Katrina) and 121mph is not a “Hell Storm”.

Fun fact: In Japanese ‘Usagi’ means rabbit.

    That’s no ordinary rabbit!
