Just Making It Up As They Go Along

From the Puffington Host

Over the last decade, the Southwest has suffered the sharpest temperature increase on the continent, declining late season snowpack, loss of vegetation, … blah blah blah

Those are easy claims to check.

Strike 1 : NCDC shows that temperatures in the southwest have been declining over the last decade.

Strike 2 : USDA shows only a tiny area of the southwest as having a drought.

Strike 3 : Her own article says that the droughts are periodic and natural

History teaches us that prolonged droughts decimated the Pueblo peoples of the American southwest and the Angkor of Southeast Asia. Repeated drought cycles annihilated millions of Mayans in Middle America

Strike 4 : Many ski areas in the Southwest have had record seasons in recent years.

ARIZONA SNOWBOWL SNOW REPORT
Thank you for making the 2009-2010 a record season. It was a great year and we are looking forward to next season.

When you are saving the planet, you are entitled to just make stuff up.

Extra bonus – GISS shows almost the entire US cooling over the last decade.

lol, yep. Funny stuff. Does it ever occur to these people to ask why a desert is a desert to begin with?

“As your post shows, all of these problems with water in the west were present before so-called “global warming” became an issue. While there may be some factual basis for the conditional predictions contained in your post, linking them to the fallacious
claims of Anthropogenic Global Warming is very disingenuous”

My post on the HuffPo, promptly deleted.
    Those are some severe TOS.

The National Park Service says Lake Mead’s low water level is part of a natural cycle seen over 70 yrs:

“The variation in water flowing into Lake Mead and the water flowing out of Lake Mead causes the lake’s water level or “elevation” to fluctuate yearly and over multi-year periods, and it has done so throughout the reservoir’s 70 plus year history. This is normal, and it is how Lake Mead was designed to work.”

It has been quite low twice in the past. Historical fluctuation:

Interesting note on the USDA map, I did not know that Louisiana was 20% in drought! I have recently watched an episode of “Billy the Exterminator” on A&E, and there is NO WAY a drought in the areas he visits. My dollar is on “Land Use” issues (drainage for homes). Hawaii is in the same boat…interesting.

    Steven,

What is Halter talking about? I live here in the beautiful desert southwest and if it was anything like he describes I’d back it up. It’s fine here really. We have not had a hot summer for years.

Even the local paper (Az Republic) recently reported that Phoenix had its fifth hottest summer – but it was duly noted that it was nighttime highs due to UHI (yes, UHI was recognized and explained in a MSM outlet) that was the culprit. I measure UHI delta T at around 4 degrees F in non-summer months and around 7 degrees F during summer.

Wednesday a high of 77 deg F is forecast. Really, it is just beautiful here. No catastrophic global warming going on here. As soon as it becomes unbearable from CAGW I will be among the climate refugees fleeing and I’ll post just to let you know I’m headed for Colorado.

Until then, I’ll just be chillin’ here in Tempe.

    • I remember one summer night around 1975 driving south on I-10. When I left Tempe, temperatures were close to 100 degrees. By the time I got to Ahwatukee, it was in the 70s.

Ahwatukee was out in the middle of nowhere at the time. They had just built the golf course.
