The papers are full of claims that heatwaves are coming more frequently – which is a position derived from pure ignorance of history.

What would you be writing in your blogs today if this story occurred now in 2011?

Frankly, I don’t understand your question. Are you asking the following?
“If the stories being cited from historical news sources were, instead, about temperatures at those locations today, what would I (though I’m not an AGW doomsayer) be writing in my blog?”
My blog isn’t actually about climate change, though I occasionally touch on it. My most recent post along those lines is here (I hope Wordrpress accepts html).
But if this captures your question, pending further analysis and since I haven’t become an expert, I’d likely rely on what the experts are saying. Because they’ve, you know, studied it and stuff. I imagine (not being one) that they’d say “we’re certainly not ready to attribute a single heat wave to AGW, but it’s one more data point in an increasingly large set that indicates the predicted effects of CO2 accumulation are becoming more obvious.” But I wouldn’t want to put words in their mouths.
Given this historical flashback …
The question to AGW doomsayers is
The answer is they would be screaming something similar to the current hysteria about heatwaves in July.
Reading between the lines, there is the implication that today there are a bunch of hysterical crybabies hyping every thing that previously was considered normal summer weather.
There is an agenda my friend, and we are watching it play out in realtime. These historical references are being pulled back from the memory hole in an effort to save the current pop-science culture from IQ crash.
China Lake is not Death Valley. Greenland Ranch became Furnace Creek. China Lake is west of there at the base of the Sierras.
Furnace Creek has an elevation of -135ft and China Lake airport is about 2400ft. According to WU the temperature today was 113 at Furnace Creek!

Is this the same Greenland Ranch started by Eric the Red? I hear the crop yields will be ‘unprecedented’ this year..
