Climate Change Lunatics Costing Australians Much More Than Taxes

PORT Albert, on Victoria’s southeast coast, is a pretty-as-a-picture fishing village that is at war with the science of climate change.

Residents in the village have been told that because of rising sea levels, new housing has to be built on stumps almost 1.5m above ground level, despite the fact many of the town’s original colonial buildings have withstood time and tide on ground level without ill effect since the 19th century.

At the same time, a heritage overlay in the village, introduced more than a decade ago, prevents roof lines being built higher than the roof of the local pub, which is claimed to be Victoria’s oldest continuously licensed hotel.

Residents have seen land values plummet by 38 per cent in the past year under the weight of the overlays. Investment in the town has stalled. And Port Albert Progress Association president Donna Eades says that, with rising floor levels and roof lines limited by the height of the pub, “the next generation of Port Albert residents will have to be pygmies”.

The closest tide gauge to Port Albert is at Stony Point (85 miles) and shows no change in sea level through their 20 year record.

Global warmers, like many religious types, see facts as a threat.

Yes , but haven’t you heard? Sea level is expected to rise anywhere from 3 inches to 82 feet by the end of the century. Talk about narrowing it down! And one day, either less than 90 years from now or 300 to 400 years from now, depending on who you listen to, it will rise about 250 feet. Never mind the houses on stumps and stilts – swim for your lives!

  2. DEEBEE says:

To rub salt into the wounds maybe these maroons can adjust the 1.5 m by the amount the sea floor has fallen.

  3. SMS says:

Why don’t they just jack up the pub?

    • Blade says:

Easier to jack up the politicians.

The leftist green socialist do-gooders seem intent on finding out what happens when you push too far.

Normally when you keep poking sticks in the tiger cage you get your armed ripped off. As that hasn’t happened yet the stick pokers are emboldened.

I am looking forward to what happens next (somewhere, maybe not in Oz though)

  4. Dave N says:

So they have to build on 1.5m stumps, but have a roofline below the pub. Well, at least dwarves will be able to build new homes..

  5. Edward says:

One of the reasons posited for not placing a new fission reactor on Dungeness point, was the ‘predicted’ sea level rise, now other sites have been chosen – mind you, not that they’ll ever be built.
We won’t have need of vast amounts of power, because all of the remaining British industry will have long disappeared.

British jobs gone with the wind.
Crippling new taxes proposed by Chris Huhne to subsidise green energy could force key employers out of business.

I live just up the road from Stony Point and have spent most of my life in the environs. Went to School at Hastings, played sport up and down the western shore of western port etc, and now live on about 600 meters from and 2 meters above above eastern shore line.

I wish the sea level would rise, then I’d have “beach front” 😉

I have spoken to people who honestly beleive the sea level has risen. LOL. But they still have their property about 3 meters from and 500mm above the shoreline LOL. Seems they’re not convinced enough to put their decisions where their beleifs are LOL

  7. Jean Demesure says:

“prevents roof lines being built higher than the roof of the local pub”

The local people have let this collectivist stupidity imposed on them, there is no reason now to complain about yet another layer of stupidity.

  8. Alec W. says:

The whole district is being gradually flushed down the gurgler by an out of touch Council which is not locally based.
