During the third week of July, 1936 – 12,000 people died from the heat. In 2011, 22 people died from the heat. The red bar for 2011 is too small to appear on a graph of this size.
The current heatindexwave is the worst in the planet’s history, because no one previously used “heat index” as a substitute for measuring temperature.
Thats really not a fair comparison. Heat in 1936 was regular heat, which, any climate scientist can tell you, is not nearly as dangerous as heat caused by CO2. You have to model all the pertinent inputs, feeback loops, etc. to find all the effects of heat cause by CO2. After the tipping point is reached, the death spiral will come fast and furious, and will or course be……unprecedented.
In other words, the climate scientists have models that show that this modern heat, caused by CO2, will kill far more people than regular ever killed. As soon as they adjust the data and tune it to the models, you will see just how dangerous CO2 caused heat really is.
Steve,
and electricity was SO much cheaper then, everyone MUST have had air conditioners. As I have said repeatedly comparing deaths is totally meaningless.
Comparing TEMPERATURES is a valuable service to remind people of what is easily forgotten
Tony, I disagree. We are told, it is our use of air conditioners and the like as cause for our current climate. So, it is definitely appropriate to make the comparison. It goes to the greater question. Are we better off today with our carbon emissions, than we were just a couple of generations ago without such conveniences?
I’ve rethought the question. It is imperative that people make these comparisons.
But James, the bedwetters have shown that we are melting glaciers and killing polar bears through our emissions. Can’t you think of the polar bears for once, or is it all about you?/sarc.
SUYTS,
i stand corrected. I was only thinking of the matter from the question of accurately determining whether ACC is occurring as predicted by current climate scientists. but your point is very important, and is not given the attention it deserves.
lol, yes glacier, I’m one of those selfish bastards always only thinking of humanity….. and yes, it is all about us! 🙂
@ Tony, thanks man.
Heat index was billions and billions of degrees in in 1936, like the interior of Al Gore’s earth.
So our old friend extrapolation suggests that with a little more CO2, the death rate could go negative.
Dear God! Do you have any idea what that could mean? The “Negative Heat-Death Feedback” would drown Manhattan in squirming, naked, lithe, sumptuous, oiled bodies by 2028 at the outside!
(NHDF is a logarithmic growth curve, it’s seriously bad (Michael Jackson bad, not Rebecca Black bad))
Stark,
glad to see SOMEONE is using the right date!
Tony
Do you know anything about Ill wind blowing, Villabolo, and Mecago?
No wonder that generation packed off to war without hesitation. They had already been through Hell.
Air conditioning has made us soft and if the power goes out, we are all toast. We did have a heat index of up to 122 in the general DC area and it was vile out today. But it’s not like we never had vile heat in DC before. Or vile politicians for that matter.
