Forget The Temperature Record – Everything Now Is Heat Index

Temperatures refuse to go up this millennium, so alarmists had to come up with yet another way to jack up temperatures – by 15-30 degrees.

New York City Temperatures to Feel Like 110 as Heat Wave Spreads Into East

By Christine Buurma – Jul 20, 2011 7:58 AM MT

Temperatures in New York, Philadelphia and Washington may feel as high as 110 degrees or more this week as a heat wave spreads from the Midwest into the eastern U.S., increasing energy demand.

Portions of 33 states may have a heat index, which measures air temperature and humidity, above 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 Celsius) tomorrow, according to the National Weather Service. The index reached 131, a level common only along the Red Sea in the Middle East, in Iowa on July 18, according to Weather Underground Inc. in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

“You’re seeing a sustained level of heat and humidity, and you’re not seeing a lot of relief overnight,” said Travis Hartman, a meteorologist at MDA EarthSat Weather in Rockville, Maryland. “Power demand is going to be very high.”

I lost the url for where I got this link, but they were claiming this heat wave breaks records of both temperature and duration.

I get damned sick of hearing about the “feels like” temperature on the evening news. I want to know what the temperature *is* — not what some equation says it allegedly “feels like”. We went through a phase here where all the weathermen would talk about is the indexed temperature. It sure sounded like the global warming propaganda was the whole truth and nothing but.

    • I used to stay at my grandparents house on Long Island in the summer when I was a kid. It was always too hot and humid to sleep well. The only place my parents could escape the heat as children was at the movie theater – because it was the only place that had AC.

Summers aren’t getting hotter, people are just getting physically and mentally weaker.

Worse than the 1930’s? Bringing up the 1930’s in a newscast would make today’s weather boring—as if they can’t find enough interesting things to talk about right now.

BTW, is anyone besides me hoping August 2nd will come and go without a resolution to the debt ceiling “crisis”? It will be amusing to see Barack Obama’s reaction.

I’m a fairly bright guy and I was looking at the temperatures across the nation and astounded at the numbers south of a diagonal line from AZ to Main. Then I looked at the numbers in my home state of Washington. It was “1”. WTF? I know we’ve had a cold summer, lots of rain, but what the hell does “1” mean? It doesn’t feel like “1”, doesn’t look like “1”, and I still need to water my coffee trees regularly and don’t have to break the ice jam in the water line, so what does “1” mean? And of course I realized it is no more meaningful than that “117” I saw in Texas or the “116” in Florida. It is a made for Hollywood number. Are we, as a nation, that stupid? Is our stupidity commercially viable in this way? We’re in deep doo if that’s the case.

120+ heat index figures have been common in Iowa for the last 2 decades, although 100+ actual temps are far less frequent now than in the 1930’s. It seems like the Cornbelt states have traded humidity for heat, which is a huge positive for growing plants, like corn and soybeans.

  6. gator69 says:

Why don’t they figure in the wind chill along with the humidity? I mean, when there is air movement it ‘feels’ cooler. But I guess I should not give them any ideas, because next they will add the heat index to our wind chill modified temperatures in winter, anthropogenically raising the global mean.

  7. mkelly says:

Up north we get “wind chill” in the winter. This is about misery. People love to know how bad they have it. Besides it is easier than explaining thermodynamics to everyone.

  8. Greg Simmons says:

The Heat Index is a funny number anyway. When it “feels like” 100 outside, my “always cold” daughter says it feels GREAT!

Last I checked, this time of year we have a weather phenomenon called “Summer”.

Looks like Warmism becomes more religious by the day.
