Robert Nicholls, an environmental researcher at Britain’s University of Southampton, says New Orleans was a case study in failure — of building a city below sea level while simultaneously destroying coastal marshlands that would have helped to protect it from Katrina’s storm surge.
Disrupting the Borg is expensive and time consuming!

don’t know nothing ’bout geography………..
Katrina hit way to the east, the surge was from the lake, no marshlands would have helped
Some people have said that the Katrina disaster was Bush’s fault; funds that were supposed to be used to shore up the levees were diverted to the Iraq war. Whether true or not, I can’t doucment.
I heard the ACOE had proposed plans to fix known problems with the levy system there but were tied up in court by environmentalists so they used the funds elsewhere after paying court costs.
I seriously doubt that. Those are two entirely different set of funds. Regardless, if one lives in a town by the sea, under sea level, in the local where hurricanes are common, sooner or later, they’ll get waxed. It wasn’t a matter of if this or if that, it was a matter of when. Even then George Bush told the residents of N.O. to get out a full three days prior to the hurricane striking and the subsequent flooding. The mayor failed to execute the evacuation properly. The Governor was more interested in playing politics than actually help the people in her charge and she failed to ask for help in a timely manner……. which, the administration had repeatedly told her she needed to ask before they could act.
Catrina is a study in failure, but it wasn’t George’s. Healthy grown men holding up their babies screaming about who is coming to help them when the President of the United States told them to leave 3 days prior. What did they do? Exactly what we’ve trained them to do. Sit back and feel so entitled that they wouldn’t even make the effort to move their family out of harms way. Kulling is the word, I believe.
Obama gets down on his knees every night, faces Mecca and praises Allah that Bush was Born! Otherwise, he would have nothing to say about all the ills of the world.
Take your meds.

I did, but I still have a headache every time I see your comments.
Aren’t you supposed to be in Vegas for a Star Trek convention or something?
Ill wind blowing,
Mecago? Villabolo? Tony Duncan?
Slight disagreement Amino, at least with Tony there is a short distance of logical flow before he veers off in his own assumption. IWB is just infantile, other than when he/she is cutting and pasting. Then its just boring / annoying.
Do you really think Obama wanted the global financial crisis so billions of dollars needed to spent to achieve nothing more keeping the status quo?- it was the inept work of Clinton but Bush could have cleaned it but just made it worse. Obama is an idiot but most Americans are idiots.
If that is true, then you have alot to worry about because this is the list of countries whose IQ’s trail that of the US… Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, Argentina, Russia, Slovakia, Uruguay, Portugal, Slovenia, Israel, Romania, Bulgaria, Ireland, Greece, Malaysia, Thailand, Croatia, Peru, Turkey, Colombia, Indonesia, Suriname, Brazil, Iraq, Mexico, Samoa, Tonga, Lebanon, Philippines, Cuba, Morocco, Fiji, Iran, Marshall Islands, Puerto Rico, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, India, Ecuador, Guatemala, Barbados, Nepal, Qatar, Zambia, Congo, Uganda, Jamaica, Kenya, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, Ghana, Nigeria, Guinea, Zimbabwe, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, and Equatorial Guinea.
While it is true we came in about a quarter of the way down the list, we can probably say with confidence that our reporting is much more accurate than that of most other countries (like infant mortality, we are the ONLY country who reports accurately). Also of interest is the fact that there are three different IQ evalauation tests, and scores can change by twenty points or more, dependent on which test is administered. The difference in scores between the US and Hong Kong (#1) is only nine points. Now that you have been schooled by an American, get used to it.
Poor city planning cannot be laid at the feet of those who come later. But I guess that was beyond your ciphering.
I recently talked to a structural engineer who was down to New Orleans to inspect the levees. Guess what? The new revamped leeves are already showing signs of failure. If another Katrina were to hit tomorrow, they would probably fail again.
and what are the odds of that happening…………..

Yes and it would still be Bush’s fault /sarc
Just because New Orleans was built in the middle of Hurricane Alley you believe a hurricane will affect the city again! That is almost like saying the Florida Keys will experience a hurricane!
Or even Cancun!
we get very few, and the ones we do get tend to be small…
We went out and played in the eye of Katrina……
Don’t forget, we’re almost 200 miles long
I was in N.O. just after (I think it was) Dennis*. Limbs everywhere. You’d swear everyone in the city thought they’d been hit and would have been on their guard.
After three days I said, very explicitly, “I hope the next one wipes this filthy, horrible town** off the map.” And a few months later . . .
* I know it was early July 2005.
** Seriously, New Orleans was (and probably still is) the most evil place I’ve ever spent a night or two in my life. I would fully support nuking it from space.
Hey go easy on Big Easy, it’s not that bad, just needs a few more strip bars to liven the place up a bit.
Unfortunately, a little too much “We don’t run from hurricanes, we drink ’em!” bravado left the city a in civil defense situation less than completely prepared for a hurricane determined to make such boaster prove they could do it
I had heard around the time that strengthening the levees should have been done in the 90’s but Clinton delayed action
WOW! What a comeback! I can’t wait for the inevitable “So’s yours!” or the eternal “So do you!”. Your rapier wit is so clever and cutting! You must be a moron! How else to explain the clever bon mots you create out of thin air! Congratulations Blow! You have won the Fickled Finger of Fate Award! Please bless us with additional wisdom from that vast store of space above your neck!
