National Geographic : Glacier Park To Melt Within Nine Years

The problem is that there is too much snow for anyone to get in there and check it out.

Blackfeet Indians predict the return of “many glaciers” to Glacier National Park:

Did I miss something? or does that comment from Nik with no “c” seem out of character for him?

    bizzare..

  3. Jimash says:

Yeah, something going on there. I’m still me tho’.

  4. Latitude says:

    Nik, it’s a wordpress thing…
Steve had no control over it, more than one link in a post and wordpress will bounce it to moderation…
Don’t think Steve is sitting here all day and night waiting on one of us to post. LOL
He’ll see it when he gets around to it.
In the mean time, you can post it all again, just put one link in each post. 😉

OK, time-out for NikFromNYC . Go to your corner and stay there until you can responsibly play with others.

Back to the issue at hand, note that this USGS guy is an “ecologist”, not a geologist. I’m getting perturbed at the biologists in the Survey pontificating that any perceived change in an ecosystem is “a sure sign of disaster” and “it’s all man’s fault”. And I work there [sheesh]

As a geologist, I’m far more impressed by the range of climate change in the last 10,000 years than I am by a few variations in biologic populations. The “poley” bears survived the Medieval Warm Period, the Roman Warm Period, the Minoan Warm Period, and the Holocene Climatic Optimum, each of which was warmer than the current Modern Warm. The glaciers waxed and waned in concert with these long-term (in human perceptions) oscillations. No big deal.

Cripes! Stop gettin ‘yer panties in a twist! It’s all natural

Please, please, please! Can someone with more street or academic “pal reviewed” creds request a retraction or explanation from the National Geographic. Don’t these guys and gals realize their articles are archived.

  7. Billy Liar says:

How can a lack of glaciers ‘endanger the region’s plants and animals’? What plants/animals live on the ice? When I went there the ground squirrels and mountain goats relied more on tourists for their lunch than the glaciers. Well not actually the tourists themselves, of course, but their food.

  8. Amino Acids in Meteorites says:

The other two times don’t really count since the road wasn’t technically open until July 10 the first time and World War II reduced manpower the second.

So this is, reasonably, the first time this has happened.

  9. Amino Acids in Meteorites says:

    Let me get this straight……

Global warming causes road closures in July from snow…….

    Ok, got it.

    ;O)

These people see relationships that most people don’t. I think it’s called delusion.

If I remember correctly the sign post at the beach for Lake McDonald on the west side said it was a glacial lake. HHHMMM a lake made by melting glaciers. Seems as though this process has been going on a long time.
