“All the evidence shows that we are nearing the end of man’s tragic experiment in independence from God.”
Wow, I thought. They get it. And suddenly I felt a burst of solidarity with the Jehovah’s Witnesses. The words are from one of their tracts, which was given to me because I have this passion for talking about God — a wild glee, almost, for stepping up to The Big Serious and wrestling theology with the neighborhood proselytizers.
I think the Christian End Times movement (the message of my Jehovah’s Witness tract), the growing buzz over the Mayan calendar prediction (we shift into a new age on Dec. 21, 2012… you can even order end-of-world mugs and T-shirts) and the science-based urgency of climate-change warnings all emanate from the same rawly intuitive sense: an unprecedented planetary shift is under way, which we can aggravate and perhaps turn into Armageddon if we continue ignoring our own thoughtless contributions to the situation.

Well what can we say? Dear Robert is a self-confessed believer in Very Odd and Extremely Unlikely Things. Good luck to him.
This reminds me of a t-shirt I saw when I was in teachers’ college … “Jesus is coming – look busy”.
And behold “the science-based urgency of climate-change warnings” from JoeRomm’s Witnesses.
At least we don’t have to wait until 2020 to see the prediction fail.
Parallels between fringe religious movements and CAGW? Check this out:

CAGW – Little science; lots of religion.
CAGW. A belief system. Just check the trolls here.
Little cowards. Old-school Christians do NOT run around trying to turn you into a socialist-type slave. Muslims, on the other hand, do. And what do the stats day? Oh yes, atheists when combined with their little brothers, Those Who Believe That Nothing Supernatural Exists But Don’t Specifically Name Themselves As Atheist, are demographically over-represented in prison by about a factor of 4… but of course, everyone else is the problem – Humanists are like the awesomeist people EVER, baby! Yeah, just keep telling yourselves that, nitwits.
So: “Puffington Host : Greens Are Soulmates Of The Muslim World Domination Movement.”
Any of you ready to live with that heading? No? Oh dear, why-ever not? Surely the FACTS are your guide? No? So why does it look, from my vantage point, that the AGW share the same fundamental lack of honesty that the Humanists, in all their various flavors, do? So just who is the Turd in this little Fairy Tale? Mmmm? Oh deary dear.
What the Hell is the “Christian End Times movement”? Christians do not have such a “movement”, cults do. And Muslims. Islam teaches that they can force the end of the world through warfare.
The Bible says no man will know when the end of days will come. Somebody skipped VBS!
Gator said, “The Bible says no man will know when the end of days will come.”
Actually, that’s not what it says, and Gator is way off in his generalization about Christians. To be precise, Jesus only said that no one knows (present tense referring to His time), not no one will know (future tense). Furthermore, He said no one knows the day or the hour of His coming; He said nothing about no one knowing about the times and the seasons of it. And there are millions of non-cultic evangelicals (Baptists, Methodists, Lutherans, Presbyterians, etc.) who believe that we are indeed in the end times.
Why just tie this nonsense to Christian? There are plenty of other belief systems to pick on also. Sacred Cows maybe?
The Bible’s more accurate in foretelling the future than those X-box 360 models.
