Radical New Idea From Salon : The Sun Affects The Earth’s Climate

Never underestimate the brilliance of warmists. They may be three centuries late, but eventually they show up.

There are three major factors that affect the planet’s temperature and, by extension, its agricultural development: volcanic activity, the presence or absence of El Niño and, finally, the heartbeat of the sun. If the latter slows down for long periods of time, the Earth gets colder. During the Maunder Minimum from 1645 to 1715, the sun effectively lost its heartbeat entirely. The result was unbearably cold winters and incredible hardship around the world.

Carbon emissions have warmed the planet dramatically, but we happen to be entering a new sunspot [i.e., heartbeat] cycle — the 24th in our recorded history. Many experts believe that not only will it have weak maximum temperatures, but very deep minimums. If this is true, it’s the best thing that can possibly happen. The sun would effectively buy us time to switch over to non-fossil fuels.

Oh wait a minute. We are actually going to burn alive in four years.

If we end up having strong or even normal maximums, temperatures in 2015 could be hotter than humans have ever seen before.

I’m guessing that skeptics of global warming have willfully ignored this research.

They have, and to our great peril. The fact that the sun has kept global warming down over the last 10 years has given some people an excuse to declare that it simply doesn’t exist.

I’m confused now. I thought the lack of warming was due to Chinese ???

  1. Yup, I sure never read some peer-reviewed genuine honest reality-based scientist saying that CO2 was some kind of “thermostat” or that it warmed the planet “just like a greenhouse”.

  2. The Left finally notices the giant furnace in the sky. Now, *that’s* progress.

Alarmists are now trying to have it both (or perhaps a number of) ways.

Not only that, but they’re now acknowledging something that skeptics have been telling them for years, while at the same time claiming that skeptics are being ignorant?

Alarmists’ stupidity and hypocrisy have no bounds.

Your observation on the neo-pagan’s embrasure of realities that have been known for years and then vilifying opponents who have been pointing out those realities is part and parcel of the way the Left operates. Witness Glorious Leader’s sudden advocacy for government spending cuts, and then acting like it was his idea all along.

“— the 24th in our recorded history”.
The sunspot cycle is 11 years long, and recorded human history goes back some 5,000 years. There have been over 450 sunspot cyles in that time; we just happened to observe the last 24. This type of slipshod writing is reflective of progressive ‘thinking’.

Steve… I think the proper translation is actually ? ?.
