Rolling Stone Calls For Guerilla Warfare Against Global Warming

They think that violence and taxes can stabilize the climate.

Have we failed to slow global warming pollution in part because climate and environmental activists have been too polite and well behaved?  Is it time to take to the streets, express some outrage, maybe engage in a little guerilla warfare against Big Oil and Big Coal?

That’s the message you get in a new documentary film called Just Do It: A Tale of Modern Day Outlaws, which will be released in the U.K. this summer.  The film follows the adventures of several British climate activists as they cut through fences and get smacked around by cops in riot gear.  The film is selling a kind of moral outrage: Big Oil and Big Coal are wrecking the planet just to turn a profit, and nobody – certainly not mild-mannered treehuggers – is doing anything to stop it.  As one activist in the film says: “I want to feel like doing something, rather than nothing, and not just watching the world go to shit.”

    “Mild-mannered tree-huggers” like these?

    http://www.adl.org/learn/ext_us/ecoterrorism.asp

“During the past two decades, radical environmental and animal rights groups have claimed responsibility for hundreds of crimes and acts of terrorism, including arson, bombings, vandalism and harassment, causing more than $100 million in damage. While some activists have been captured, ecoterror cells – small and loosely affiliated – are extremely difficult to identify and most attacks remain unsolved. Although it has been overshadowed by Islamic terrorist threats since September 11, ecoterrorism remains one of the country’s most active terrorist movements.”

  2. Jim Cole says:

These folk need to mass along the shores to “stop sea level rise”.

Twice a day, they could demonstrate their action against the rising tides

Day in, day out; week in, week out; month in, month out, they would demonstrate and chant and wave signs and hoot and holler.

And they still wouldn’t make a whit’s difference – just like railing against Big Oil and Big Coal.

But if there’s no corporate enemy and just the Tides, well, sh*/t, where’s the FUN in that??!??

  3. The activists have been too polite?! If I was drinking anything when I read this I would have spat it out!

  4. Andy WeissDC says:

There are plenty of good reasons to curb pollution, strive toward energy independence and promote reasonable programs to develop alternative fuels. We do not need to do what the radical environmentalists propose, namely go cold turkey on fossil fuels and destroy our standard of living in the process based on phoney “climate change” hype.

  5. Ill wind blowing says:

Gee Steve, must you always exaggerate? For a moment there I thought there were guns involved. Besides, you dated yourself when you said Guerilla Warfare. Don’t you know that the politically correct word, nowadays, is Terrorism?

By the way, does anyone remember the Monkey Wrench Gang?

    • You might want to read the article before posting

    • Justa Joe says:

Guerilla warfare and terrorism are not synonymous terms. Are you suggesting that terrorism i.e. what happened at at the WTC (911) is a legitimate form of warfare, or are you one of those guys that claim it was an inside job? You’re nutty enough.

Ever notice that most warmists tend to have a Noam Chomsky like world view and are anti-American to the core?

      • Ill wind blowing says:

It doen’t matter how legitimate a form of warfare it is because the phrase “guerilla warfare” was replaced with the term “terrorism” for purposes of demonizing the guerilla fighter.

As far as your presumed “nuttines” is concerned, it is simply you who doesn’t know how to listen. You even lose track of the fact that such ecoteurs are referred to as “terrorists” in common parlance. It is Steve who used the term “guerilla warfare” and it’s irrelevant that he, as well as I, know the difference because the point is that no one uses that phrase anymore. Except for people of a certain age.

    • Justa Joe says:

It is not possible that the term “terrorist” has supplanted “guerilla fighter” in the common parlance unless it is being done so erroneously by sophists like you because they are not the same thing. I’ve been around for a decent while, and I don’t remember ever hearing guys that high-jack airplanes and such being called guerillas. Back in the day they were called Arab terrorist where applicable. Maybe you should look up the term guerilla.

If you are claiming that as a further victimization of the people commonly refered to as terrorists the powers that be have labeled them terrorists when they are actually guerilla “fighters” please explain if the fellows that hit the WTC fit your definition of guerillas.

If their message is “I’m a climate extremist and I’m here to harm you” then they should not be surprised if the response of the opposition is to decisively act defensively before they come knocking. I hope they don’t push too hard with this thinking.

“If their message is “I’m a climate extremist and I’m here to harm you” then they should not be surprised if the response of the opposition is to decisively act defensively before they come knocking. I hope they don’t push too hard with this thinking.”

“I’m here to harm you”? Those are your arrogant, lying words inserted into their mouths. As for hoping that they don’t push too hard with their defensive posture, you could flush your hopes down your water saving toilet. You deserve far more than their childish antics in recompense for your faithful worship of your demon god-Mammon.

You are nothing but zombies manipulated by vampires. Parasites releasing their toxins throughout Earth, Wind & Water.

You are dogs so stupid that you can’t even recognize your corporate masters. Wooden dummies who serve as sounding boards for the Kock Sisters and their ilk. “Pay no attention to the CEO with his hand up my arse” says the ventriloquist dummy.

By the barrel of the gun you barbarians savage; by the same shall you be dealt with.

      • You are a certifiable nutcase.

      • NikFromNYC says:

He finally cracked. Yet what he says is true, though he doesn’t realize the implication of it: that happy productive people who love to create things of value to others and love to do this not alone but more effectively in self-selected groups whose member’s talents compliment one another, that such groups are known as corporations, and that the extraneous reward for proud and ambitious participation in such a group is most often a life in which free association with beautiful (highly fertile) women becomes the lot of male members whereas looking beautiful the lot of female members, eventually leading to the bright eyed love of happy and not impoverished children and grandchildren.

I run a sole proprietorship. Alas, I am not yet a corporation, and much of the reason is the lack of appreciation our current government-by-the-people affords small business since ironically, us creative workaholics have allowed an ill winded miserable miscreates and Enron worthy corporations and billionaires to convince youth and minorities that white is black, and all that is fine and good is a pile of poo.

Miserable men want to change human nature, specifically female human nature, since, well, “dude, smart and well adjusted hot chicks dig creatuve rich guys who run corporations!” That the level of unequal income distribution is much the same under fully communist anti-corporate governments is a fact that eludes their practical consideration, for the are idealists, not realists, utopians, not good drinking buddies.

      • NikFromNYC says:

Can you spot the miserable losers who became Greenpeace movement heroes via demonstration of true believer fanaticism?

      • Justa Joe says:

Wow… Keep a warmist talking long enough and all the vile vitriol and bile will eventually come spewing out.

    • Ill wind blowing says:

Steve: “You are a certifiable nutcase.”

Thank you. Can you recommend a good anti-psychotic? Also, it’s hard to find strait jackets my size. Do you know of any mail order company I can purchase them from?

  7. P.J. says:

    Also from the article:

“In the letter by Bill McKibben, founder of advocacy organization 350.org, who is collaborating with author and farmer Wendell Berry, actor Danny Glover, and NASA climate scientist James Hansen to organize the event, McKibben makes clear that he is asking protestors “to do something hard,” which is to come to Washington “in the hottest and stickiest weeks of the summer and engaging in civil disobedience that will quite possibly get you arrested.”

Danny Glover believes that the 2010 earthquake in Haiti was caused by global warming:

  8. dp says:

What part of “If their message is…” is declarative? It is a conditional statement dominated the the opening “If”. I followed it with a possible consequence should that be the message. That is what their message sounds like to me, by the way, if they actually propose guerilla warfare against people who are unconvinced by the alarmist message. Do they? If so I fully expect the law will intervene before somebody gets hurt. More often though they tend to arrive after the fact.

You, I fear, are far too gone to help, either way.

  9. Al Gored says:

“If you care about the fate of the earth’s climate, it’s certainly a worthy target.”

In the hysterical aftermath of the Tuscon shooting, I thought all the lefties said using words like “target” was bad. In this context it is. It is not like we are dealing with rational people here. This is a religious mob in the making. Could get wierd. And Obama loves it.

  10. spot_the_dog says:

It’s a good thing spelling activists don’t usually resort to guerrilla warfare, hey Rolling Stone? 😉

  11. John Silver says:

This is a good thing. Which side do you think will win?

  12. P.J. says:

@ Justa Joe: Speaking of vitriol, here is another recent Rolling Stone article about Michelle Bachmann … talk about hatred!:

just like others of the same ilk at WUWT the only purpose of IWB is to elicit replies especially if bad-tempered. there’s no communication and zero additional information gets provided. I suggest to lower the noise.

    • Ill wind blowing says:

I guess your olfactory senses cannot detect the stench of red baiting that goes on on these threads.

Particularly the stench of Anthony Watts when he dedicated an entire thread to calling AGWs cockroaches.

Also the stench of your narcissistic leader Lord Monckton and his insane vitriol and blood libel. We’re guilty for the genocide of 40 million African babies and millions of African farmers. Then there’s the “mess in Haiti” that we’re obviously responsible for.

Tell me how much ‘communication’ there is in your demonic slander of entire professions.

You are paranoid psychotics like the Glenn Beckian/Rush Limbaughian/Sarah Palinesque/Fox News/Tea leaves Partying crowd. Bullies pretending to be the persecuted.
