Scientists Warn Of A Disastrous Future – Unless Australia Makes A Minsicule Change In the Amount Of CO2

Without a CO2 tax, Australia could face floods and droughts like they have had for the last 50 million years or so.

Scientists warn of future without climate action

ELEANOR HALL: While politicians debate the merits of the Federal Government’s policy for dealing with climate change, climate scientists gathered in Melbourne today to deliver a warning about the dangers of not acting.

They made some alarming predictions about global warming, including its dire effects on key parts of Australia’s environment, as Simon Lauder reports.

SIMON LAUDER: Professor of Environmental Studies at Melbourne University, Peter Christoff says the conference is his response to the 2009 UN climate meeting in Copenhagen, where world leaders agreed to limit global average warming to two degrees or less.

Professor Christoff says the way things are going global warming will be twice as bad as that by the end of this century.

PETER CHRISTOFF: It’s a conference which will alarm people in terms of what the science is telling you. It paints a very, very dark picture, in particular for Australia which is an ecologically fragile continent. But it also, I think, send a very powerful message which is that in the next decade, this next critical decade, we have time to move ourselves away from this probable future.

Australia has a great opportunity to change the world when they contribute .02% to a .04% trace gas.

    Hiding the decline

rom: Phil Jones To: ray bradley ,[email protected], [email protected]: Diagram for WMO StatementDate: Tue, 16 Nov 1999 13:31:15 +0000Cc: [email protected],[email protected] Dear Ray, Mike and Malcolm, Once Tim’s got a diagram here we’ll send that either later today or first thing tomorrow. I’ve just completed Mike’s Nature trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (ie from 1981 onwards) amd from 1961 for Keith’s to hide the decline. Mike’s series got the annual land and marine values while the other two got April-Sept for NH land N of 20N. The latter two are real for 1999, while the estimate for 1999 for NH combined is +0.44C wrt 61-90. The Global estimate for 1999 with data through Oct is +0.35C cf. 0.57 for 1998. Thanks for the comments, Ray. Cheers Phil
