One of the main reasons I started doing this blogging was because I realized that climate scamsters were going to taint the reputation of all scientists. Now that budget crunch time is here, the whole scientific community will suffer for the sins of the few. NAS and other guilty parties should have done the right thing instead of slopping at the trough.
Disrupting the Borg is expensive and time consuming!

You’re 100% right……
…and it’s put a bad taste in everyone’s mouth for all science
Yessireebob! The HS has been piled high enough. It is time to clear the stables.
This is a case where one small group spoiled life for an entire field: Science!
Steve – I agree. I’m very sad about what it will do to science when the CAGW bubble bursts.
I’m also very sad that a lot of young people interested in science were seduced into the CAGW meme so far as to get PhD’s and move into research positions. When the money goes they will be stuck driving taxis whilst the tenured idiots who foisted this disaster upon them will be unsackable. And will be around in faculties teaching sciences forever, contaminating generations of students with ideology – as when your pet subject gets defunded the usual thing is the faculty makes you to teach stuff that everyone hates, like chemistry to medical 1st years.
But it is not that bad. In China they are graduating millions of scientists and engineers who are inclined to actually make stuff. They will inherit the science world, its only the US and Australia and Europe which will go scientifically senile.
over here they will just blame Bush, Palin, the Tea Party, and conservatives in general
Change the last line to Has gone Scientifically Senile and you have a winner. There is always forced retirement, say 60 and out! They would be money ahead to pay them to do nothing.
There is always Ethics violations! Polar Bear research anyone?
Ah but no forced retirement allowed, that’s discrimination…!
I dropped into my old uni a decade ago and had a talk with one of my old colleagues, who had stayed in academia. I asked her how my old supervisor was getting on. She looked at me with some surprise, and said oh don’t you know, he’s still here. Apparently the same year he was due for retirement the government brought in antidiscrimination laws, so he stayed on. And on. So I dropped into say hello – he must’ve been pushing 80.
Well, we told them. They were warned. And, it is probably necessary. As Bruce points out, we won’t get rid of the tenured lunatics, but the lack of funding will purge the more base element and the young, ripening watermelons. In the end, we should end up with a more refined scientific community.
The alarmists obviously overplayed their hand for short term gain. Now no one believes a word anyone says about anything.
Winner!
have i lost anything in the news? what’s up?
Nope, everything is just fine.Greenland is having a bumper crop season, Obama saved the planet three more times, the Arctic has become the Riviera North, alarmists are keeping the faith and polar bears are getting new press agents. Go back to sleep. ; )
Mother Goose Laid a golden egg and the global financial crises is averted! 8)
I suspect that crap science, non-science and pseudo-science are endemic in academe. And that the highly publicised area of “climate science” is only the visible face of a totally rotten edifice. Univertities have become an industry. Here are some student numbers for one of them:
1900 1,000
1945 5,000
1956 7,000
1980 16,000
1990 25,000
2002 40,000
For the first 60 years of the 20th century this university was the only one in its region. Now it is only one of about 10. This story can be repeated all over the western world. The result is a load of crap all over (e.g. http://esciencenews.com/articles/2008/09/04/gait.may.be.associated.with.orgasmic.ability )
