The 1990s turned out to be the most drought-free decade in US history.

Ten years later he wrote this :

Empirical evidence does not lend much support to the notion that climate is headed precipitately toward more extreme heat and drought. The drought of 1999 covered a smaller area than the 1988 drought, when the Mississippi almost dried up. And 1988 was a temporary inconvenience as compared with repeated droughts during the 1930s “Dust Bowl” that caused an exodus from the prairies, as chronicled in Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath.

Now he is back making the same stupid predictions which he got wrong three decades ago.

    They’re scenarios, not predictions….
    He was misquoted….
He is trying to save the world….

  2. diogenes100 says:

Hansen knew to go for the dire predictions as soon as he got some media attention (following the game plan of Maurice Strong). No surprise there. But look how eager the media is to jump on board ASAP: “We don’t know if they are right” but just the suggestion of drought, etc, is supposed to be “enough to prompt a search for alternatives” to fossil fuels. Obama’s outrageous programs to throw big bucks at anything “alternative” are just the fulfillment of the scare-the-public demands that the media started making so many years ago – Maurice Strong’s strategy triumphant!

the media get paid for creating panic and fear..so does hansen.
sack the damned lot. cut their airtime and lets get on with life.
    yeah..I dream

  4. Would you rather be some bald guy who did a bunch of papers that turned out to be wrong in an obscure field who then retires a nobody… or planetary hero and saviour? One can imagine where he might be inside his head. In the old days, we didn’t call guys like this the world’s greatest [fill in the blank] scientist… we used the more conventional term ‘crank’.

My advice would be to leave him carry on, goad him into making more and more crazy claims as he will have to do to remain in the spot light.
