Just like everything today (whether warmer or cooler, wetter or dryer, etc.) is either evidence for or a contributing cause for the imminent global broil, everything in the early and mid-1970s pointed to an imminent ice age.

Over and over, the thing which characterises alarmists is their tendency to see fantastically complex flux as a simple combination of manipulable “forcings” and mechanisms. Find a rough but handy set observations like ENSO or PDO, or some speculation as to the effect of some extra gas or particulate matter in the atmosphere – and they’ll add it to their kiddies console of coloured buttons and levers.

We assume that the standards of the Enlightenment are intact. Maybe in the Departments of Dentistry or Metallurgy or Wool Classing they’re safe…for the time being!

Needed to be kept in mind is that the article was written while Ewing & Donn were proposing the same paradigm, and many voices were proclaiming that we were on the edge of a new Ice Age.

Present day land albedo increase resulting from the record September open Arctic is pointing in the same direction, but 2013 ice recovery will confuse the issue somewhat.

Simple people look for simple answers. Trouble is, the systems are complex, and while the dim of wit struggle for answers, the Tax and Greed crowd try to take advantage of the confusion!!!

As per the norm, never let a ‘perceived crisis’ go to waste. I wonder who let that cat out of the bag that shouldn’t have said it! 😆
