David Appell Says This Never Happened

TIME Magazine June 1974: Another Ice Age?

As they review the bizarre and unpredictable weather pattern of the past several years, a growing number of scientists are beginning to suspect that many seemingly contradictory meteorological fluctuations are actually part of a global climatic upheaval. However widely the weather varies from place to place and time to time, when meteorologists take an average of temperatures around the globe they find that the atmosphere has been growing gradually cooler for the past three decades. The trend shows no indication of reversing. Climatological Cassandras are becoming increasingly apprehensive, for the weather aberrations they are studying may be the harbinger of another ice age.

Telltale signs are everywhere —from the unexpected persistence and thickness of pack ice in the waters around Iceland to the southward migration of a warmth-loving creature like the armadillo from the Midwest.Since the 1940s the mean global temperature has dropped about 2.7° F. Although that figure is at best an estimate, it is supported by other convincing data. When Climatologist George J. Kukla of Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Geological Observatory and his wife Helena analyzed satellite weather data for the Northern Hemisphere, they found that the area of the ice and snow cover had suddenly increased by 12% in 1971 and the increase has persisted ever since. Areas of Baffin Island in the Canadian Arctic, for example, were once totally free of any snow in summer; now they are covered year round.

  1. What he claims is there was no “scientific consensus” on global cooling. On the other hand, there is no scientific consensus on “global warming” either.

If you ignore a couple of silly self serving “adjusted” surveys done by activists, and look at the only reasonably representative survey put to climate scientists – this was done by Hans von Storch – then you won’t find a “consensus” on any key global warming claims either. It’s a mixed picture. Which is why, as usual, Storch’s survey on the consensus is ignored or attacked.

And on both hands, there is no such thing as “scientific consensus” as science does not need anyone’s consensus to be correct or in error. As has been demonstrated countless times in the past, the “consensus” is merely the ignorance of the time – until some bright child learns the truth.

I think Hansen figured out the cycle of cooling was ending and hence the start of global warming scare, much like the ancients had calculated the eclipses of the sun and upon it happening told the ignorant masses to bring gold immediately as a sacrifice to the sun god, Rae, or the sun would be blocked out. Whatta ya know, it worked. Global warming is the modern day version, just pay your tribute in taxes and fees, erect monuments to Gaia in the form of windmills and solar panels and sacrifice your living standards or we will be burned to a crisp. The problem is the cycle is once again returning to cooling. OOPS.

  3. David says:

“Since the 1940s the mean global temperature has dropped about 2.7° F”

Now if that was a common perception it would be inconvenient!! Worthy of further study.

  4. Rosco says:

“Since the 1940s the mean global temperature has dropped about 2.7° F”

We know that is completely wrong !

Any climate scientist will tell you that you take thousands of temperature recordings with no decimal precision, sum them and then average them to arrive at trends with at least two decimal places – at least one hundredth of a degree is required for climate science.

The quoted figure has only one decimal place precision so must be wrong ???

When asked why are you here (at this blog)?
David Appell says – “I’m here to prove idiots like you wrong.” and goes on to pontificate that his version of science is real and true.
But to the dispassionate reader of these blogs I contend that Mr. Appell is wrong. It appears that he comes here because he has a deep psychological need to dispel his feeling of inadequacy. His protests amount to childish cries of “my science is better than yours!” or “I do harder math than you can!” that school room bullies employ to try and prove how good they are, but actually show how empty they are.
All in all he sounds suspiciously like he has a psychological inadequacy requiring that he must come here to feel worthy by bullying those he perceives as less than himself.
    A very sad person.
