Hubert Humphrey was Vice-President from 1964-1968 and the Democratic Party Presidential nominee against Richard Nixon.
“Certainly one of the chief guarantees of freedom under any government, no matter how popular and respected, is the right of citizens to keep and bear arms … The right of citizens to bear arms is just one guarantee against arbitrary government, one more safeguard, against the tyranny which now appears remote in America but which historically has proven to be always possible.”
– Hubert H. Humphrey, Senator, Vice President, 22 October 1959

it’s funny how right-wing HHH sounds today now that the Democratic Party has moved so far to the left.
It’s funny how left-wing Nixon sounds today now that the Republican Party has moved to far to the right. After all, it was under his administration that EPA and OSHA were founded. He even talked about a guaranteed minimum income!
EPA consolidated a number of Federal functions, I doubt that Nixon envisioned EPA with primary function to move industry offshore.
Nixon quotes, sounds like a Republocrat:
1. The greatest honor history can bestow is the title of peacemaker.
2. As you talk to us from the Sea of Tranquility, it inspires us to redouble our efforts to bring peace and tranquility to Earth. For one priceless moment, in the whole history of man, all the people on this Earth are truly one.
3. There is an international disease which feeds on the notion that if you have a cause to defend, you can use any means to further your cause, since the end justifies the means. As an international community, we must oppose this notion, whether it be in Canada, in the United States, or anywhere else. No cause justifies violence as long as the system provides for change by peaceful means.
4. The average American is just like the child in the family. You give him some responsibility and he is going to amount to something. He is going to do something. If, on the other hand, you make him completely dependent and pamper him and cater to him too much, you are going to make him soft, spoiled and eventually a very weak individual.
I voted for Humphrey cause Nixon seemed like such a lying sleazebag. My how things have changed for the Demo’s, and not for the better.
