Flash Mobs Can’t Happen Where I Live

Almost everyone is legally armed around here, and as a result we have almost no crime (other than that perpetrated by the FCPD.)

Piers Morgan is hoping to take our guns away, so that we too can be terrorized by gangs – like in Bloomberg’s New York and in Obama’s Chicago.

Call your Congressperson today. Lunatics are trying to run this country into the ground.

I get flash mobs of geese and starlings.

Not all “flash mobs” are violent. Indeed, some have taken the idea to create some nice events. Criminal flash mobs are another issue.

Smaller versions of flash mobs are becoming more popular outside of large cities.

I live in rural Michigan. I hope this isn’t the trend, but there have been incidences the past year where criminals arrive in groups, pick a home with few neighbors and not readily visible from the road and forcibly enter with or without the home occupied, even in broad daylight. If the home is occupied, it then becomes more than just robbery. This is why citizens are arming themselves more than ever.

    A few examples;
    1. My wife works for USPS. She was delivering mail to a customer and saw a truck/trailer in their yard loading up the owner’s John Deere tractor. She did not think it looked like anything suspicious; the thieves just went on loading. The next day she was questioned by the Sheriff’s dept.

    2. A co-worker had his home completely emptied one day last year. He and his wife went to work and afterward a U-Haul truck backed up to his house and loaded up everything they could fit in the truck. When they came home, all but the stuff nailed to the floor was gone.

    3. A group of 5 pulled into a driveway at a home about 6-8 miles from our home, knocked on the door and forced their way into the home while the owners were home. The family (don’t recall how many) was locked in the basement while the thieves took what they could and left. Fortunately the family was not harmed. They had guns but were unprepared. Their guns were taken as well.

    4. A co-worker stopped at a local Speedway gas station to get gas and coffee. As he was walking to the door of the store, a young man approached him, said he had a gun (hand in coat pocket) and demanded his money. He obliged and handed over his cash. The scumbag jumped in his car full of other scum and drove off. The crime was video taped, but no immediate arrests. The kicker……the crooks returned in a different car THE SAME DAY, the store clerk recognized them and called the police. ROFL. My co-worker shortly thereafter obtained a CCW (now called CPL).

That seems to be the trend. Criminals are getting bolder and more violent. Even stealing dogs out of yards has become more prevalent. They are coming out of the rotting cities to the suburbs and now rural areas 20-30 miles away.

Since we’ve lived in the country our entire lives with low crime, in years past we rarely removed the keys from the car or locked the house, but because of a rise in home B&E and theft in general, it forced us to become more secure. I am installing a video security system and already fenced in 1 acre around the house. We keep 3 handguns loaded, two in the bedroom within arm’s reach (mine a Glock 17, my wife a Taurus .380), one in the living room and a shotgun in the bedroom closet. My AR is also available as necessary. Our kids (18 and 13) both have been trained to operate firearms and defend against home invasion. We both carry.

BTW, unless you have small children, keeping your home defense guns locked up, unloaded and not ready to shoot is just plain stupid. If you have small children, put them out of reach to them but easily accessible to you. At least have a fingerprint safe to gain quick access. You have seconds to respond, not minutes.

I never dreamed 30 years ago we’d have to live like this. When the SHTF, I can only imagine how bad it will get.

I installed ADT with cameras that broadcast on the internet. From anywhere I can log on and see what’s happening at my house. This wasn’t cheap. Now if they call (and they do within a few minutes when the alarm is tripped) I can go on the net and check it out. I also have the control module to the system in my Master BR, as well as downstairs. If the alarm is tripped at night, this unit has one button cellular connect to FD, PD, and Intercom to ADT. But my Mossberg is bedside anyway. I also have motion detection downstairs, so most paths of intrusion can also trip the alarm that way.

When I wake It’s a bit more certain to walk downstairs if I first saw the alarm is on, and no motion was detected.

This system with (extremely Loud) internal alarm also monitors for Fire and Monoxide.

I looked at the optional Flame Thrower outside the MB door, but it was a little pricey…. 🙂
