There are researchers who claim a high death toll in the US from starvation during the Great Depression – perhaps something in the range of seven million deaths. http://survivalacres.com/blog/famine-killed-7-million-people-in-usa/ I have not looked into it enough to have a strong opinion one way or the other. Perhaps the gummint has “adjusted” historical records as accurately as they currently do with temperature records and the Consumer Price Index.

A very large section of the nation was in serious drought. The mississippi river flow was far lower then this last drought.

What the last three years of Tim Flannery’s “never-ending CO2 induced drought in Australia” looks like. Gee whiz!!! It looks like CO2 induced drought causes more rain in Australia over the past 3 years. Who knew?

I have a lot of respect for Flannery’s effort to protect Australia’s ecology, but he needs to get of the CO2 bandwagon. In 2004, Flannery said global warming would cause such droughts that “there is a fair chance Perth will be the 21st century’s first ghost metropolis”.
