You are a highly trained SWAT team member from another town miles away, and you just happen to be armed and taking a walk through the woods in the hills next to an elementary school.
You hear the deafening roar of dozens of rounds of high powered rifle bullets being fired inside the school. What do you do?
- Run to the school and stop the massacre
- Run away from the school
- Say that you didn’t hear the shooting, and when confronted proclaim that you “didn’t do it.”
Didn’t do what?
Hint : Sandy Hook is very hilly and the school is near the bottom of the valley – so the crack of a rifle bullet would echo for many seconds. The roar from the shooting would have been overwhelming.
4. You did hear the shooting, but thought it was someone elses responsibility or jurisdiction to something about it.
And of course he didn’t have a phone to call 911
Turn my gun into the authorities at once to help prevent such a thing from ever happening again.
That is the liberal response. LOL
While I lived on the farm, I usually investigated any gun shots that I could hear in that valley.
Walking by a school the person should have investigated the disturbance and attempted to stop whatever was going on.
223/ 556 is not a “High Powered” rifle round. That is why I had 308 and 300 Win Mag.
The DC Sniper used .223 and killed a lot people at long range. The noise from a .223 round is massive.
I am aware of the noise from that round, as I have fired enough of them. For long range I still prefer 308, which is even more noisy. I was shooting steel plates at 150 to 200 yards for practice on my private range. There was a major difference in the damage caused by a 223 and a 308.
Obama has used our money to purchase hundreds of millions of both .223 and .308 rounds for use by his para-military on American soil.
So what was a heavily armed SWAT bloke doing taking a walk through the woods near a school ? Did he have any defensible business being there and being heavily armed ?
Most people understand that it is illegal to take weapons to schools.
For under 100 yards, this is my preference for a weapon

There is nothing wrong with this if it could have a holographic site

Seriously, you don’t need sites for a shotgun, but that’s just me, can’t speak for anyone else.
Well it sure helps if it’s your 100yd gun, as Mike is suggesting.
There are better guns for that. Just saying.
Shooting a magnum slug 100 yards it helps to have a sighting system. Also for quick acquisition it helps to have a holographic sight, such as an ACOG 4X.
It was the same sight I used on my 556 and my Bushmaster 450 “Thumper”.
Then you should get a rifled barrel for that.
It has a rifled barrel! At least mine came with one.
There are also Sabot rounds that do not require a rifled barrel.
Really, I thought they had to be specially made. Nice to know.
The rifled barrel for a shotgun that is, everything else for them is smoothbore.
I have a Winchester 1300 “Deer Slug” with 2x scope which I use with a rifled choke for deer and an extra full choke for turkey. With sabot slugs it will group 4″ at 100 yards. In most of Southern Ontario, deer hunting can only be done with shotgun and muzzle loader. To bad because I would like to try deer hunting with my great grandfathers Winchester ’94 in 38-55 just for nostalgia.
I was wondering about that. When I was in Mexico in December I met a lot of people from Ontario, and they did their deer hunting with shotguns.
In the “flat lands” of the east coast, shot guns are required for all hunting (except some ground game like rabbits). The argument is that a rifle shot would carry too far if it missed (no hills to stop it).
I have to pipe in…saiga 12, rifled slugs, holosite.
Good for 0-100yds…and you don’t want to be downrange 😉
Have to swap the muzzle brake for a choke but it is fun as hell to skeet shoot with, too.
Sabot out of a shotgun nets no gains over a rifle, but I guess it adds one more option if you are using a shotgun.
I chronoed these at ~1600fps, and ~4″ groups (sitting, over a bag)

This one comes with both rifled and smooth bored barrels.

However you can order a rifled barrel for most any Mossberg and possibly Remington shotgun.
I had a spare rifled barrel cut to 18.5 inches as it has the rail to mount a holographic sight and laser. It was a PDW for home defense. It also had a serious light mounted to it.
