1938 Paper Predicted Dramatic Global Warming

In 1938, a railroad engineer predicted catastrophic global warming due to man-made CO2.

Immediately after he made his prediction, temperatures plummeted for several decades.

The definition of insanity is trying the same thing over and over again – hoping for different results.

As you’re well aware Steve, we are no longer the good ole U.S. of A.
The rat bastard progressives apparently don’t see their parallel’s from history past.
Our 2nd Amendment is no longer a right for you or me, and I found that out over the past two weeks!

These are the same Gannett idiots who published the names and addresses of the legal Southern NY gun owners. Why am I so surprised that they would publish these two asinine articles on Earth Day 2013?

A Sierra Club blogger, PhD student and part-time climatology professor says:

    Paul Beckwith – March 2013
“For the record; I do not think that any sea ice will survive this summer. An event unprecedented in human history is today, this very moment, transpiring in the Arctic Ocean…This is abrupt climate change in real-time….”
    source

The problem is that as a climatology professor he should know that the Arctic has been ice free during some summers within the last 10,000 years.

    Abstract
We therefore conclude that for a priod in the Early Holocene, probably for a millenium or more, the Arctic Ocean was free of sea ice at least for shorter periods in the summer. This may serve as an analogue to the predicted “greenhouse situation” expected to appear within our century.

      Here is another paper.

      Abstract
Arctic sea ice cover was strongly reduced during most of the early Holocene and there appear to have been periods of ice free summers in the central Arctic Ocean. This has important consequences for our understanding of the recent trend of declining sea ice, and calls for further research on causal links between Arctic climate and sea ice.

      Here is another.

      Abstract
Calcareous nannofossils from approximately the past 7000 yr of the Holocene and from oxygen isotope stage 5 are present at 39 analyzed sites in the central Arctic Ocean. This indicates partly ice-free conditions during at least some summers. The depth of Holocene sediments in the Nansen basin is about 20 cm, or more where influenced by turbidites.

      Here is northern Greenland.

      Abstract
A 10,000-Year Record of Arctic Ocean Sea-Ice Variability—View from the Beach
We present a sea-ice record from northern Greenland covering the past 10,000 years. Multiyear sea ice reached a minimum between ~8500 and 6000 years ago, when the limit of year-round sea ice at the coast of Greenland was located ~1000 kilometers to the north of its present position. The subsequent increase in multiyear sea ice culminated during the past 2500 years and is linked to an increase in ice export from the western Arctic and higher variability of ice-drift routes

Yet an ice-free Arctic this year is: “An event unprecedented in human history”. Go figure. 😉

This recent wave of global warming BS came of age in the 1970’s but was basically put on hold due to an incredible series of cold winters and cold outbreaks during the late 70’s and early 80’s. In fact severe Florida orange freezes in 1977, 1981, 1982, 1983 and 1985, more than the whole rest of the time since 1900. As the orange groves were rapidly moving south, it seemed absurd to be touting catastrophic warming. But the alarmists did come scampering out of the closet during late 1980’s and 1990’s as the climate briefly warmed. Now it has stopped warming again and seems to be cooling. Another big bump in the road for the AGW crowd.

More in the 80s than the 70s.
Hansen’s boss got all the limelight and kudos over the Ozone hole scare in the 80s. After observing how it was done, Hansen decided to start off his own eco-catastrophe scare so that he could follow in his boss’s footsteps – even out-do him. Unfortunately, he never had the charisma to reach the same heights. I imagine he will die a bitter, bitter old man.

Once you start labeling “natural” CO2 benign and labeling human initiated combustion CO2 artificial you’re headed for trouble.
