For centuries it was believed that the Emperor had no clothing, but new research indicates that this was based on the testimony of one small child, who had no background in textiles or even retail clothing sales. He also had no formal education in clothing and had never published anything about fashion in a peer reviewed journal.
Furthermore, it has been discovered that more than 97% of the experts at the time agreed that the emperor had clothing. We can therefor safely conclude that the emperor was well clothed, and that the child was not competent to discuss his wardrobe.
It’s one of the worst and most used ad hominem arguments: dismiss someone because they don’t have experience and/or qualifications. It’s like ignoring someone’s warning that a bus is about to hit you, because they don’t know how to drive one.
Those who use said argument are worth less attention than they’re claiming the other does.
It’s an attempt to shut down the debate. You don’t need a phd in climate science to see that global mean temps have flatlined for over a decade. Some indices put it at 16 years and more.

Extend that to all the President’s programs and proposals.
There is only a small, elite, highly educated group of MIT climate scientists with 200 IQs that have the qualifications to properly cool the past and warm the present, or even write 13,867 peer reviewed papers that only they and they alone can comprehend. We unwashed peasants have no capacity to read thermometers and analyse temperature records. Or even determine if Emporer Hansen has no clothes.
You forgot to mention the part where computer models predicted an increase in the emperor’s level of clothing, to the point where he would be severely over-clothed if government did not immediately require citizens to give up their own clothing. And let’s not forget one of the more memorable passages from the story, where the emperor’s Minister of Energy declared that he’d like to see a substantial increase in the price of yarn in order to curtail clothing production.
Here is another analogy. Psychoanalytics is a branch of psychology, or more properly, psychiatry. It has its own associations. It has its own journals. Everything within the bubble is peer reviewed. Members are highly educated and highly qualified. Nonetheless, psychologists outside the bubble (i.e., the rest of the scientific world) consider everyone inside the bubble to be engaging in a cranky sort of junk science. Welcome to modern science.
And of course they gave us that wonderful scientifically validated method of treatment called leucotomy (aka lobotomy), the originator of this surgical method even got a Nobel prize…
