Barack Obama is convinced that he is the victim of global warming induced hurricane destruction. Unfortunately his score keeping isn’t very good.
President Grover Cleveland served his first term from 1885-1888. During that time, fifteen hurricanes made landfall – compared to three under Barack Obama.
Chronological List of All Hurricanes
During Cleveland’s term three major hurricanes struck the US, including one which wiped the city of Indianola, Texas off the map. Barack Obama’s tenure has seen zero major hurricanes.
Before that July 1887 hurricane hit, parts of Texas were suffering from more “extreme weather”: Drought. And Congress decided that they could buy favor, and votes, by giving away money to the “needy farmers” (actually government cronies to reward their friends).
Grover Cleveland successfully fought against this other powerful force of nature (corruption), thus staving off the beginning of the welfare state a little longer. He vetoed the bill (and more than 500 other bills!) saying:
I wrote about that veto, and the meaning of the word “welfare,” not too long ago.
===|==============/ Keith DeHavelle
I love that horse. Looks like she’s still leaning into the wind.
Keith DeHavelle is right, Cleveland was one of the last Presidents who still felt the need to obey the Constitution. He served two non-consecutive terms, the only President to do so. He actually won the popular vote in 1888 but lost in the Electoral College, then came back for his second term in the 1892 election. He was an honourable Democrat — that tells you how times have changed! (Not that the elephant party is any better these days.)
Evil, gun toting, heteronormative white males were exploiting the planet, raping women and oppressing minorities even during the 1880’s. No wonder Gaia was showing her anger!
I was gonna say Grover Cleveland was one unlucky President and I wouldn’t want to stand next to him in a thunderstorm, but I reckon you might be right DC. 🙂
HORSE ” I come out of my stable and WTF”
Correction. Obamao 2. Sandy was NOT a hurricane. It was a post-tropical winter cyclone.
And to further support your comment, I still don’t believe any land based stations recorded hurricane force winds for Sandy.
Neither was Isaac. Recorded sustained surface winds on land were well below the hurricane threshold. The buoy data offshore showed that the storm weakened just before landfall. Recorded wind speeds are easily checked at the National Data Buoy Center website on the date of the landfall.
Technically, neither Sandy nor Irene were hurricanes when they came ashore. No land or buoy data support Irene as a hurricane either on the NC coast nor in NJ. Same with Sandy in NJ. And Isaac was barely on the threshold of being a hurricane. Not nitpicking your post, Steven, I know you’re taking the data from elsewhere, just saying.
What we do know is that Warmists are really, really, really hoping for lots of hurricane strikes this year so they can keep their cult going. Though, I suspect if landfall activity is low they will start saying that it is caused by ‘climate change’.
