Two recent Arctic stories on NBCNews.com seen to have disappeared after Sweden announced the record ice in the Baltic. They will probably show up again in a few days. They seem to do this when a major story disproves their mantra. After things quiet down they ‘return’ the stories for their faithful.
Of course satellites that now provide current ice conditions, location, and navigation has done nothing to help. Zip.
I get the impression from them that they believe that Arctic melting will also open up shipping lanes in Utah.
Right down the I15 corridor, from Chicago to San Diego! đŸ˜‰ The Great lakes will connect Hudson Bay, Chesapeake Bay and the Gulf of California!
Question: What influence does Arctic ice extension/concentration have on the global climate compared to Antarctic ice ext/conc? From what I have read/seen, the Antarctic plays a much more important role regarding global climate conditions.
They have the same influence: none.
If they could claim that Antarctica had less ice then they’d tell you Antarctica governs the climate. It’s agitprop.
When I lived near the equator, it was direct rays from the sun moving between 20 north and 20 south that changed it from a rainy season to the dry season. The sun is the primary driver.
If you could magically remove all the ice at the poles overnight, it would still be extremely cold there and the freezing air masses would still wander toward the equator providing dramatic cold fronts. The ice will always re-form when the sun is below the horizon.
Please note in the third paragraph it says “are allowing”, not will allow, meaning that it is already happening.
They don’t mention that this ALLOWING is with extensive use of Ice Breaker escorts!!
