No, Greenland Is Not Melting Down

Contrary to the flagrant lies of John Abraham and the Guardian, Greenland is not “melting down.”

At the peak of the melt season, there is a 60 mile wide band on the west coast which is showing signs of significant melting.  Other regions near the coast are seeing minor surface melting.

The surface mass balance shows a gain of more than 300 billion tons of ice since September – close to the 1990-2013 mean

Tony, the DMI on its Greenland mass balance page claims 200 gt/year loss for the last decade.

“Over the year, it snows more than it melts, but calving of icebergs also adds to the total mass budget of the ice sheet. Satellite observations over the last decade show that the ice sheet is not in balance. The calving loss is greater than the gain from surface mass balance, and Greenland is losing mass at about 200 Gt/yr.”

Having said that, 200 Gt a year is literally but a drop in the ocean, the worlds oceans needing 360+ Gt to rise by 1 mm.

The calving is caused by other than warming anyway. The entire thing is all BS.

The last ice melted in BOSTON yesterday!!! Whoopee. Hudson Bay is still partially frozen. And that is always the place where all Ice Ages begin which is super scary.

Those melt ponds in the second picture are probably semi-permanent fixtures. There’s one on the Gornergletscher in Zermatt, Switzerland that’s been there so long it features on the maps:

In the summer, the thin layer of ice on the surface melts and the pond re-appears.
