Reblogged this on Climate Collections.
An experiment to see what happens is easy to do. That nobody has done it speaks volumes about the state of the science of recording temperatures, and the whole climate mess.
“That nobody has done it speaks volumes”
How extensive study of litrechur you performed to come up with this conclusion? just curious.
“How extensive study of litrechur you performed …”
How much literature have you read on any topic? Just curious because you sound very edumacated.
I might have read ‘one or two’ scientific articles, though never written anything mentionable.
But back from ad hom, you said something speaks volumes and I just wondered how you came to thst conclusion? If you say you actually have browsed through the related scientific literature, fine then. I just suspected you didn’t.
I am waiting for a CAGW enthusiast to explain it. “It’s not the parking lot! It’s all that CO2 that the automobiles emitted! That’s what warmed things up!”
I am reminded of the warmist who claimed that the reason why closed up cars get hot in the summer was because “all the carbon in the window glass works like a blanket to keep the heat in!” Yes. That really happened…
That was none other than Dr. David Suzuki:
http://www.rossmckitrick.com/uploads/4/8/0/8/4808045/pastedgraphic-1.pdf
Suzuki said that?! Ouch! Then again, Suzuki is the same “expert” who had no idea what the major temperature records were. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4SaIFsyxgA
Sadly, Suzuki proves himself to be a credentialed know-nothing.
He is a bona fide science illiterate.
How this man came to be known as an authority on anything is simply mind boggling.
Judge for yourself:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mIVZnnqm7o
David Suzuki, then 54-year-old activist and professor of genetics explaining why a car gets hot in sunshine. And it is the carbon in glass?
Wow, just wow. I used to think crackpotting is not stuff professors excel, but obviously I was wrong. Professor excelling in genetics can be incredibly good in giving wrong physical explanations.
Yes wert ,, a bit like : a chemical Engineer advising on how a bridge should be built.
Prof Suzuki is obviously out of his field & out of his mind… There may also be a correlation with other Scientists, that readily adopt the stupid AGW philosophy.
One iof my favorite climate experts is Michio Kaku, here he is on the CBS Early Morning show with Chris Wragge, Groundhog 2011….
WRAGGE: Is this the same weather pattern, though, that’s affecting us that’s affecting other regions around the world? You’ve had problems in Brazil with mud slides, Australia’s going through some weather issues now. Is this the same?
KAKU: Similar. El Nina, cold weather around the equator, is contributing to what’s happening in Australia. And I was in Brazil just two weeks ago, where they had monster mud slides, killed hundreds of people because of flooding. Massive flooding. And it’s summertime now in Brazil.
WRAGGE: In El Nina, what are the patterns here? Is it every couple of years?
KAKU: Yeah, El Nina and the North Atlantic oscillations go back and forth every few years and they last a few months. And so we have both effects helping to bring down cold air from the north, while the Earth itself is heating up, creating more moisture in the Gulf of Mexico. And when the two meet, watch out.
Not sure how the Gulf of Mexico could be any more moist, but I am also unfamiliar with El Nina, so who knows. Is El Nina the hot/cold-wet/dry phenomenon we keep hearing about? I guiess we should just trust the experts.
Unfamiliar with El Niña?
You should visit us at the People’s Republic of Boulder. We can have a beer at Pearl Street and see some.
Meanwhile, here are a few famous Los Niñas:

Great song. I have always loved Joni’s work, she is one of a kind.
Love
Concrete yes,, but even worse when asphalt / bitumen surface is involved ; the temperature is markedly elevated – way beyond the perimeter of the car park..!
Where’s the instrument shelter in that picture?
Dave, the Google Maps street view on North Drive in the elbow shows a nice collection of instruments in the little grassy area, including a Stevenson screen. However, the street view is dated Aug. 2008, so I am not certain everything showing then is still in the sat. photo above.
I would say at least half of the land base measurement increase in the last 40 years is directly due to UHI and the failure to correct for it and too often correcting the measured record use the UHI flawed station as the benchmark.
Here is an example I have been watching for a while, a jet aircraft heat island: http://pindanpost.com/2016/03/26/jet-fueled-temperature-rises-for-broome/
Don’t worry Steve, all that will come out during Homogenization. Top Men are working on it. Top. Men.
You are correct Michael, it will all come out.
1. First eliminate the majority of stations. (This gives greater influence to the remaining)
2. Then manufacture a pseudo scientific study on why UHI does not matter. (Creating a false adjustment with “scientific” cover)
4. Then ignore about 50% of the remaining stations, further giving influence to those few that are left.
5. Then homogenize the urban and or parking lot stations, spreading their warmth up to 1200 K.
6. Then continue to make monthly unexplained .01 degree adjustments to past records, invariably cooling the past. http://wattsupwiththat.com/2015/03/06/can-adjustments-right-a-wrong/#comment-1877173 (These add up)
7. Ignore the cooling southern ocean SSTs https://bobtisdale.wordpress.com/2010/05/31/giss-deletes-arctic-and-southern-ocean-sea-surface-temperature-data/
9. Wait for a strong El Nino and generally warm SSTs (The fading blob) and proclaim the “warmest year ever” CAGW to all, while threatening to prosecute climate change “deniers.
Yes, that ought to do it.
Hey David! Wow, good summary! Personally, it is number six that most sets my teeth on edge. On the others, they at least PRETEND to have good reasons, but the constant adjustments, month after month after year after year, with no explanation or procedure are nothing more than outright fraud.
Thank you for this, David A. I hadn’t seen that excellent Tisdale article. I’ve added a link to it on my web site, here:
http://www.sealevel.info/resources.html#gisspolartemps
Daveburton, if you are around have you examined number 6; Bill Illis’s comment in detail?
Thanks Jason and David. (another day, another David)
Yes Jason, I would like number 6 focused on in a WUWT post, as it was an excellent Bill Illis post and there has been zero official explanation, or even unofficial explanation.
daveburton; excellent site with a good linked summaries cogent to the entire debate.
recommended!
What happened to number 8?
LOL, I wanted to leave something for you to add.
Actually number 8 may be to get rid of the MWP, but then we open the door to an almost infinite supply of agenda driven bias.
Interestingly enough, we were in fact able to detect the change induced by building the
parking lot. The break was detected in April of 1997
The series was corrected accordingly. Before homogenization the warming was 2C,
after adjusting for the parking lot… it was less than 1C.
Thanks!
Was that the “regional expectation”
You seriously are a BAD salesman, trying to sell a lemon.
For the sake of your soul and any self-integrity you may have left…… leave BEST soon.
not to mention the heat given off by the cars and their engines even parked
This whole CSU parking is nothing but trouble, anyway.
That one man parking nucleus metastized over the years to today’s Department of Public Safety consisting of Parking and Transportation Services, Police Department and Environmental Health Services with about 40 employees.
With budgets like that, they had to pave around the Petersen screen sooner or later.

My max/min thermometer on the north facing 10th floor balcony of a 18 story high rise, which never sees the sun and is surrounded by woods, commonly reads 8-10 degrees cooler than surrounding weather stations during the afternoon, but if anything is warmer at night. Just goes to show, based on siting, you can make a huge difference in temperature readings.
Hey, you USA guys.. stop farting so much !!
https://eos.org/research-spotlights/u-s-methane-emissions-on-the-rise
Andy, I wish we could. Unfortunately, that is what passes for public discussion these days.
The parking lot hides the La Nina that coincided with its construction.
It would be much easier and cheaper if the POTUS would just tells NASS/NOAA what temperature he wanted the answer to be and they just did it. Why pretend that science is involved in all this fraud?
By the way, did NASA start this temperature fraud because they are too incompetent to get a rocket off the ground without help from outsiders? (private firms and international help)
I just saw this…looks like Hansen is still at it: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/james-hansen-sea-level-rise_us_56effb51e4b084c67220c630
Watts has done a very grueling study of US stations
The majority of stations are not in compliance with standards, but there are two
Something Steve/Tony has brought to light on this blog.
In addition there are two glaring faults
1)When there are for example, four stations in an area and three are too close to construction
so that they give off heat to the thermometers; and one remains in a rural area away from buildings and reads lower:
The low reading is considered to be an outlier and in error, so its readings are brought up to
the level of the others (part of the homogenization) That is quite often the case.
2) Many of the white boxes the thermometers are in have lost paint and have darker areas.
I am sure everyone here will know the effects of that.
and what a nice experiment for a high school science fair. ‘Take pictures of one of the darkened boxes and reproduce it as best as possible. Build a second box, very white.
Take readings of thermometers placed in each over a period of time and compare the two.
Send the results to many places (from the mouth of babes). and win a science award and lots
of money, Get a degree. Teach in a prestigious college. and have Senator Whitehouse (D)
come after you and wreck your career.
——-Well, maybe I am getting carried away. 🙂
Darryl, you skipped become a sensation on Mother Jones. 🙂
2) Many of the white boxes the thermometers are in have lost paint and have darker areas.
Down the road from me is a visitor center run by the state, that has a weather station on its roof, right between the A/C units. The MMTS sensor is in a black casing. I about fell over when I first saw it.
I don’t know what the argument is all about. You don’t even need thermometers to know that it’s warming because the anecdotal evidence is overwhelming.

The hottest year EVER!!!! Strange how that works.
Hi,
I looked at the Google maps pic, and the only thing casting the correct shadow shape is up and to the right a bit from the shadow of the building. The map, orientation is up= North. I put a pin in it, and got the street view… That is the shelter. Make a look.
Thoughts: the building is too close. The whole area is surrounded by heat-radiating materials, including a huge bus lot ( CSU Transit center )off to the right, and the roads. Also, off-left and down a bit is a pond labeled ‘the lagoon’.
Closer in there are irrigated shrubs, an area of gravel and other niceties.
