NOAA Blocks Access To Their Temperature Data

Perhaps NOAA is tired of people being able to access untampered temperature data, and have blocked access to their public ftp site. They want a private connection to a public (pub) web page.

Hopefully this is a temporary situation.

  1. Haymaker says:

Snowball earth has NOAA freaked out. The sky is falling for their organization and their false narrative. When the data isn’t going your way, hide and change it. NOAA’s new motto,”trust us, not your skin”.

  2. MGJ says:

Interesting idea …you mean the tax-paying public who fund the collection of the data get to actually see it?

Nah, too radical, it’ll never catch on.

    • Dave Ward says:

“Interesting idea …you mean the tax-paying public who fund the collection of the data get to actually see it?”

CRU director Phil Jones wrote to Australian scientist Warrick Hughes in February 2005:
“We have 25 years or so invested in the work. Why should I make the data available to you, when your aim is to try and find something wrong with it[?]”

Like you said “Too radical, it’ll never catch on”

  3. Prometheus says:

Lol. Cowards. I imagine, if they ever restore access to this data, it will have been changed so as to match their the-Earth-is-burning narrative.

  4. Mark Lacey says:

They are getting better and better at hiding the data. ‘hiding the data’.

  5. Al Shelton says:

If Trump wins next November, he had better get a backhoe to drain the swamp and not use a long handled shovel like he has so far . IMHO.

    • rah says:

I have no complaints. The guy has had multiple packs of deep state, press, democrat, and never Trumper Chiwawas nipping at his ankles since he became the Republican nominee. There has been no let up. I’m frankly amazed he has gotten as much done as he has.
At this time he is really putting the pressure on Nancy Palsi as his team had met with the Mexicans and Canadians to nip Palsi’s supposed objections to passage of the USMCA in the bud.

Palsi and all anti-Trumpers and globalists really don’t want to see USMCA go through. When it does it will strengthen Trump big time politically and even more importantly it will yank the rug out from under the Chinese in their negotiations with team Trump. Then it will be on to our European “allies” who have been using the revenue they gain from our unbalanced trade relations with them to buy Chinese. Leveling the playing field with the Europeans will further decrease the Chinese revenue. Trump has been playing 3D chess on trade and if and when it comes to fruition it will be Check on the Chinese Dragon. They will have their economy reduced to the point where they will not be able to expand their global influence as they have been nor build the Navy and Air Force to compete with ours that they covet so much.
Two points we should never forget.
      1. The Chinese cannot feed their own people without imports.
      2. The Chinese must buy and import the majority of the POL they consume.

If he doesn’t get a second term it is the end of western civilization.

      • rah says:

If nothing else is clear this should be after all we have seen transpire since Trump became a candidate for POTUS. Only two things can separate Trump from his supporters:
        1. Trump by words or actions.
        2. Incapacitation or death.
At this point I’m just wondering how many states over 40 he will take come election night.

      • Robertv says:

That flag represents a power that ended a lot of civilizations and cultures. Their latest objective is to end the Catalan culture.

But then the EU Brussels will soon eliminate most European cultures.

        • Ben Vorlich says:

Personally I think European cultures are more endangered by American TV. We’ve already imported American speech Black Friday and Trick or Treat has replaced Guising and Toussaint, traditional national Christmas is becoming traditional American Christmas. All thanks to American TV. Even football is becoming soccer.

    • Rockhead says:

Trump needs to point out this travesty to Wilbur Ross, Secretary of Commerce. NOAA is part of the Commerce Dept., and Ross (theoretically) has the stroke to correct this intolerable behavior.

  6. arn says:

An organisation that pretends to collect data for the public
and is paid by the public
blocks the public from having access to the orginial data?

But i”m pretty sure once the untampered data has been tampered
and Filters and Al Gore Rhytms have been implemented so that
the future “untampered” data will always match the official global warming story
the access will no longer be denied.

  7. Vegieman says:

At the top of the “Global Historical Climatology Network Daily – Data Access ” page in red:

“Please note: Due to scheduled maintenance, many NCEI systems will be unavailable during the week of 11/25/2019 – 11/29/2019.”

  8. Chandler says:

Is the data to date archived elsewhere?
    Hope so…

  9. Brian D says:

Unable to access various other climate site pages as well. Just having a bad day with servers or maybe just maintenance. Run into this issue before.

BTW, Happy Thanksgiving everyone!! : )

  10. Joel says:

I did a little poking around on the NOAA site and I believe the link is open for download again without requiring authentication. I also tested the following link and it’s open as well:

Maybe it was just a temporary thing. Keep us posted…

I’m not sure if you tried entering any credentials at their login prompt, but (as I’m sure you must know) FTP requires credentials by default. The standard practice on a public ftp server is to log in as ‘anonymous’ and provide an email address as the password. It has been this way for as long as I’ve been using FTP (over thirty years).

  12. Petit_Barde says:

OT, but in the same vein :

Did you see that Rex Fleming’s book “The Rise and Fall of the Carbon Dioxide Theory of Climate Change” has been retracted from amazon ?

In the comments section someone shared Rex Fleming’s answer to his question (see the one star comment “Book publication blocked.”). Is worth reading IMHO.

    • Palaver says:

Tried to buy the book but it is not available. Sent email to Dr Rex, here is his response.

I have been receiving 2 requests per day for two weeks for the book!
Here is what I have been passing along to those requests.

My book was peer reviewed twice before the published hard cover version was published.

I have my free copies of the hard cover version and my friends who ordered theirs early received
theirs. However the radial left and /or the German government is apparently trying to stop the book!

Springer (located in Germany, though my book was published in Switzerland) have placed
the book on temporary hold while they do a “post-publication peer review”.
This was done in the August 10-11 time period. The German government is in big trouble.
They have done everything wrong in regard to fossil fuel and renewable fuel. Their electricity bills
have doubled and may not be at a peak yet.

I introduced my book with a Keynote speech at the World Congress on Geology & Earth Science,
July 11-13, 2019 in London, U.K. While there, I did a podcast at the home of famous English author,
and blogger, James Delingpole. (read his book “Watermelons” referring to the “green party on the outside
and the red, Marxist, socialists” on the inside). This interview has been seen all over Europe and
distributed in the USA by the various bloggers who are considered “deniers”. You can search his name
and find his list of podcasts and mine, July 11.

The ‘alarmist’ pushing the false CO2 theory have much to lose with this book published! While the 12 or so
books on now show the fraud, my book actually provides 3 proofs that it is a fraud.
They are really afraid of this book!

I will seek legal action if Springer does not continue to publish soon, or sue and publish elsewhere.

There are 7 of 7 great reviews — all with 5 stars on the Amazon book website

I do not have copies to sell, but people in Europe, Australia, the USA and other countries
are trying to buy it. This miserable situation may all be brought to a head when I can get the proper lawyer!.

Thanks for the information! Hope you enjoy the book soon!

This note was left on Amazon…

This book is available as an e book on vital source

  13. Susan Cooper says:

Seems the block is off noon mountain time — Nov 27th — wonder if it was because of “scheduled maintenance”?

  14. Tel says:

Works for me … must have been temporary.

  15. Steve Casey says:

This is not unusual. I have scripts which automatically download their data every hour. Most outages are usually just and hour or two, but there have been a couple larger outages. One at 9 hours and another at around 20 hours. Fortunately, the outages have not lasted longer than 24 hours. At which point, my scripts would not be able retrieve data older than 24 hours. As long as the outages remain short, there shouldn’t be a problem retrieving data during the outage.

  16. Jerry says:

Are they updating the files with the latest readings, or are they manipulating older readings to conform to their models?

  17. Doesn’t the USA have laws mandating NOAA to make data publicly available?

It could just be an admin error; We know how paranoid IT security professionals are about hacking.
