“Cruel and thoughtless”

My work (and most weather forecasters) depend on a large, reliable stream of data from NOAA.

“‘Cruel and thoughtless’: Trump fires hundreds at US climate agency NOAA”

“The majority of probationary employees in my office have been with the agency for 10+ years and just got new positions,” said one worker who still had their job, and who spoke to the Guardian under the condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal. “If we lose them, we’re losing not just the world-class work they do day to day but also decades of expertise and institutional knowledge.”

Good. Get NOAA out of the climate change scam and then concentrate on accurate weather forecasting through the National Weather Service. Providing unadjusted data and not changing historical records should be their focus. Their headcount could then be much smaller. I was hoping DOGE would begin dissecting NOAA.

Saw a CNN report tacitly suggesting that cutting NOAA staff will result in less accurate hurricane tracking and landfall predictions.
What will they say when AI assumes those tasks?
Only fools believe left wing media

when I was a kid we had about five sources to obtain the weather forecast. now we have about 20 or 30.

here is my two cents. I live in South Central Minnesota. our local news and weather stations are based in Minneapolis and St Paul Minnesota. for about 20 years the big star on our local NBC station was meteorologist Paul Douglas. no doubt he is and was a super smart guy, but even so he got his butt fired because he was making way too much money, far more than the local TV station could afford. that reminds me of NOAA, maybe populated with many employees who are talented, but not needed …sorry folks. Paul Douglas took a big pay cut and sorry but you’re going to also
