Who Is Mitt Romney?

Mitt Romney is the guy who brought us Gina McCarthy, Jonathan Gruber, and threw the election in 2012. He is a global warming nutcase, and now he wants to put Hillary in the White House.

  1. Bill Junga says:

Quite frankly, in my opinion, the only job Mitt Romney is capable of performing is that as a curator at the rusted out Nash Rambler museum. I have to attribute the current dismal state of the USA to his inability to defeat the red diaper baby currently occupying the Oval Office. If this comment offends anyone, too bad. I call them as I see them.

Unfortunately, there are as many opportunist politicians as there are opportunist scientists willing to find “scientific evidence” for anything if the pay is right!

  3. Latitude says:

oh yeah….like that’s going to work…….is there anyone who cares what Romney thinks?
and sending Romney out to attack Trump when Romney endorsed Trump?

    Romney 2012…..

Mitt Romney- “Donald Trump has shown an extraordinary ability to understand how our economy works and to create jobs, he has done it in Nevada and across the country. He is one of the few people who stood up and said China has taken jobs from Americans. We believe in free trade but we have to have a President to stand up and not allow people to cheat day in and day out.”

  4. ristvan says:

Romney is exactly the symbol of ineffectual Republican leadership Trump is attacking, and obviously drawing votes for having done so. Romney dissing Trump will backfire and help him.

  5. Henry P says:

Well, the only person to stop Trump is Ted.
If Mitt supports Ted, he supports the common sense approach toward climate change that Ted has expressed.

  6. Henry P says:

Surely, none of us [here] will support Trump? Seems to me, he really wants to build a 1600km (mile?) wall between USA and Mexico. This is what he said on TV. You cannot be serious about ever voting for such a person into high office?

    • You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but don’t expect other people to share it.

      • Henry P says:

        Yaah
I worked a great deal of my life trying to bring an end to apartheid {in South Africa} and I am proud that in the end we succeeded.
All we need is more walls [instead of bridges] between people.
Ask Israel why there is no peace there? [they also built a wall….]

        • This has nothing to do with South Africa

        • Henry, it also has nothing to do with Israel and you should know better if you are interested in peace.

On a related and highly relevant subject:

Do you believe that the 26 European Schengen Agreement countries (22 of 28 European Union members plus several non-EU nations that are part of the agreement) must establish control of the external borders of the Schengen Area if they want to preserve their open internal borders and at least have a chance to keep peace and maintain the sustainable parts of their social and political systems?

If yes, please explain how their required border control is different from the proposed protection of the U.S. southern border.

If not, please explain how Europe can make it work with open borders around the Schengen Area.

          —————————————-

P.S. Your sarcastic statement that “all we need is more walls [instead of bridges] between people” is a meaningless platitude and you know it. I could throw platitudes like that at you all day and none of us would be any wiser for it.

        • catweazle666 says:

“and I am proud that in the end we succeeded.”

          Oh, you are, are you?

At the last count, around 5,000 white farmers and their families might just disagree with that – if they hadn’t been hacked up by the nice cuddly black South Africans.

Given another decade, South Africa will be as big a basketcase as Zimbabwe, now suffering from shortage of food when as Rhodesia it was the breadbasket of Africa.

Now you want to do the same to the only flourishing, socially liberal democracy in the festering Islamist hellhole of the Middle East.

          And you’re proud of yourself…

          Give me strength!

        • gator69 says:

          Success!!!

It is clear from this study that violent crime has continued to climb faster than any
other category of crime in the New South Africa. The only apparent category of
violent crime that is in decline is murder. However, the Medical Research Council,
the Department of Home Affairs and Interpol all seem to agree that South Africa’s
murder rate is far higher than the official statistics show. Nevertheless, regardless of
what may be the reasons for this apparent under-reporting, South Africa has earned
the title of the “crime capital of the world” – especially as regards violent crime
          . While
crime rates are increasing, conviction rates are decreasing (or certainly not keeping
pace), thus adding to the South Africa’s “culture of violence”. Although explanations
are offered to explain this phenomenon of violence in the New “liberated and
peaceful” South Africa, they appear to be inadequate. Perhaps it should be argued
for the reinstatement of the death penalty. While the people on the ground would
support such a call, their desires are suppressed by the Constitution and a ruling elite
          averse to its reinstatement.

          http://www.frontline.org.za/Files/PDF/murder_southafrica%20(5).pdf

10 Times the murder rate of the US! Now that is something to be proud of!

If you go for Trump, you must be like Trump. I don’t like Trump. In his own words: he is a bimbo. Doesn’t know a thing about diplomacy. He will ruin USA.. ….if ever he gets elected. But he won’t. He is the one candidate Hillary hopes for so that she can easily win. I am amazed at the small amount of people coming out to vote in the primaries. Those voting for Trump are a small minority of a minority of people with apparent racist tendencies. Ted Cruz will be a better president but even he will have a big battle beating Hillary. He has to be very smart to beat Clinton.

        • sam says:

she will easily win vs. cruz..even moreso, kasik and rubio dont have the votes to win the GOP democratically, they are openly talking about sabotaging the process and then becoming the ‘winners’ through backroom establishment deals..fuk that! They also said that reagan couldn’t beat carter.. Trump has the potential to bring out people like me that stopped voting.. the last establishment person i ever voted for was GWB#1 when he ran against bill clinton to get a second term, havn’t voted since..currently i am registered as a green of all things but havn’t done anything but a write-in protest vote since then.. But NOW i am going to re-register as a republican so i can vote for trump in california.. to me all these bush2,clinton,obama,mccain,cruz are the same crap.. trump is the only one that is for change especially in area’s like the global warming scam.. bush2 said he was against the gw scam but actually climategate emails show his office was cooperating with these lyars to stifle debate and to intimadate science journals so they do not publish REAL science..

You offered some vaguely critical statements and meaningless platitudes in your comment above. I asked you a specific question and you chose not to answer.

Instead, you implied that I hold positions that I have never advocated and you know it.

Attack him because he’s a hypocrite. Attack him because of his inept 2012 campaign. Attack him because of his absurd health care plan, which Obama took national. But my opinion of a politician is not relevant. What’s important is the science, not the superstitions of the flock manipulators. Associating with personality cults on issues that involve perversions of data is at best to be sidetracked. Against the cargo cult of CO2 looters, ancient mysticism is more a liability than an asset. I’ve been going through this over nuclear power for 36 years now, and the pattern is clear. Altruistic socialism is a parasitical religion that needs a pretext to claim, by force, what you produce, and wants you incapable of resisting. Have I misunderstood them entirely?

    • Michael 2 says:

oiltranslator writes “Have I misunderstood them entirely?”

Yes and no. A certain amount of misunderstanding is inevitable simply because people do not have identical referents for the words they use. Thus the extreme of total understanding, and misunderstanding, are likely impossible.

The superstitions of flock manipulators are extremely important even if you are just a gopher being trampled by the flock as it is manipulated this way and that.

“The science” is way too complicated even for the experts. A bit of superstition tainted by science is pretty much the same as science tainted by superstition. Which is the science and which is the superstition? Difficult to say neither does it particularly matter.

The United States is vaguely democratic and much less vaguely unscientific if you take the voting average adult. Science matters less than religion if it comes before Congress; socialism *is* religion minus the transcendental God. You are supposed to give to the poor and do good; not because of eternal reward or because God said so, it is because this nebulous thing called “the common good” (namely ME) said so! I’ll take a God any day over nebulous common goods.

  16. Michael 2 says:

Sheep on the left, sheep on the right. Where oh where is a shepherd?

I consider Romney’s speech excellent. Had he spoken like that four years ago we might have had a different President.

SG/TH suggests that Romney is helping get Hillary elected, presumably by splitting the Republican vote. That part of his commentary may well be true but I have considered the possibility that Trump is running to help get Hillary elected. He’s in it for the money. He has said many times he knows how to make money. Well so does Hillary. She also knows how and where to spend it.

The best thing for Obama was having Romney oppose him; and the best thing for Romney was having Obama as the other choice. I suspect nearly everyone voted against who they didn’t like rather than being thrilled with the choices available.

Trump is gaining votes in traditional Democrat populations, Hispanics in particular.

His popularity I attribute to nothing more than sheep love a good show especially if the entertainer is rude and crude.

Romney pushed him over the top (IMO). Has anyone here ever watched Trump’s TV show about people begging him for money? Donald Trump appears to care only for D.T. Hillary is worse but I’m not about to praise D.T. Anyway, Romney advised listeners to watch for Trump’s response — rather than discussing issues, Trump would call Romney every name in the book, making it a personal battle. That is exactly what happened. Trump came out insulting Romney over and over, as obsessed with taking down Romney as Miriam O’Brien is with taking down Anthony Watts. That’s dangerous in a President who, once president, must represent ALL Americans. Hillary won’t do that and neither will Trump.

It is a sorry affair when not one candidate on either party has both charisma and honor. But given a choice, I will choose honor over charisma. Finding who has it is not obvious or easy.

  17. Michael 2 says:

So here we are discussing Mitt Romney with more enthusiasm than we discuss any actual candidate.

  18. Henry P says:

If you guys here all go for Trump, you must be like Trump. I don’t like Trump. In his own words: he is a bimbo. Doesn’t know a thing about diplomacy. He will ruin USA.. ….if ever he gets elected. 19. Henry P says:

Here is some advice for those here wanting to build walls between countries and not wanting to help those that are in need of help:
31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory.
32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.
35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,
36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?
38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?
39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’
41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink,
43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
45 “He will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.” Matt 25:31-46 (NIV)

In this speech Jesus goes further than all the prophets before Him by telling us exactly on what basis we all will be judged one day. Summarized in one sentence, it is simply whether we did or did not have compassion for our fellow man in need. It is not only material needs such as food and clothes that could be referred to here. Maybe someone is looking for spiritual assistance. (Matthew 28:18-20). Then we could talk with him or her about the Living Water (John 4:10) or the Bread of Life (John 6:35). Whatever a person’s problem may be our wish is always that someone meets Jesus in us. We can accomplish this by determining the exact need and than to provide in that need if one has the means and the ability to do so. If we cannot help, we should consider praying for that particular need.

By loving our neighbor we are doing the work of God. (Matt. 22:39). We must never forget this. It must be possible to measure our faith in Him by the (positive) effect it has on the people around us, such as family, friends, our church and even our city and country. Some people and churches are inclined to shift the emphasis on other issues: How you dress or how you wear your hair, to which church you go, what you may or may not eat, whether a woman may lead a church, whether you are white or black, whether you may work on a Sunday or even whether you should go to church on a Sunday or a Saturday. There is more that I could mention, such as those issues related to the certain rites and sacraments in the various Christian denominations. However, to Jesus, all these things do not seem to be very important on the day the world ends. (vs 35-36).

The big difference between Christianity and any other religion is that Jesus has already won; the price has already been paid. We don’t have to try and ‘earn’ something. Rather the sacrifice that He brought for us, namely Himself, and the examples that He set, inspire us, His disciples, to do the work of God. It seems to me that all our love for people originates from our love for Him.

It is interesting to note that Jesus does not mention that faith as such (in Himself) is a prerequisite to righteousness. It must be true then: Faith without works is dead (James 2:14). You should be able to show or prove your faith from your works (James 2:17,18). Somebody asked me once what I thought of a medical doctor who (says he) does not believe in God but goes to a developing country and spends a few years there to help the people for free. My answer to this was: “I admire the medical doctor, but I would doubt very much whether this person really does not believe in God. To show that kind of commitment to the plight of the poor proves to me that he does have faith. Maybe he says that he does not believe in God because he is still searching. (Most people, who have not yet found God, are usually searching for the truth, because when you meet with them they always seem to bring the subject up). Jesus says: ‘Seek and you will find.’ So, I am convinced that he will find God, even if that meeting with Him will still be in the future.”

I wonder when the Pope will “Tear Down The Wall” that surrounds parts of the Vatican?

You know, “the offices, the gardens, the palaces—which are walled off, with very restricted public access. The gates are manned by Swiss Guards, who will stop any tourist seeking to wander inside?
A: The walls of the Vatican do what walls are intended to do: protect the people inside from outside intruders. Yes, there are parts of the Vatican to which the public has ready access. But Vatican officials decide which parts you can visit, and when. And while you’re allowed to enter St. Peter’s Square whenever you like, you’re not allowed to stay.”

Or maybe good fences do make for good neighbors after all? Who knew?

The reality is that Trump wants to build the wall to keep the poor out. Never mind close off the road back to many, many Mexicans / South Americans already working in California. So, I think we can say for sure that he is not on his way to heaven. In fact, we can say almost for sure that he will create a hell on earth, similar to what we already had with the Berlin wall. Not to say that I like the pope and his pompous ‘walled” kingdom, but I think he did express same sentiments as mine in regard to our responsibility towards the poor. Churches should be open for anyone wanting to enter and the people in church should take care of the poor. That is true Christianity. Acts 2:44-47
