The world’s deadliest cyclone occurred in 1970 around the same time the New York Times and Washington Post were warning about “ominously” thickening Arctic ice and a new ice age.

    Bangladesh cyclones have weakened since 1995 with the warm phase of the AMO.

    In the past five years Russia has deployed 3 nuclear powered icebreakers – the most powerful ever built – supplementing 4 previously in service. 3 more are under construction and another on order. With another 3 dozen or so conventional powered icebreakers in service it appears the Bear isn’t expecting sea ice to evanesce any time soon.
