Probably in September, a tropical system will (as many times in the past) end the “permanent drought” overnight. Of course, the very same people will then have a hissy fit over that.
120 years is only 2 data points based on the length of the long term weather patterns that region experiences.
The cause of the current drought conditions in that region is the decrease of tropical storm activity that goes with cooler ocean temperatures in the Gulf and that is transient.
Romm needs to learn a bit of history because there is evidence that region experienced multi century droughts in the past.
Saying “permanent” makes it scarier…
