  1. Latitude says:

    I count 3…..possibly 4

    I can’t remember

  2. Well, I can only see 9 legs, or parts of legs, so that would mean exactly 2¼ bears.

  3. Me says:

Or would it be 27 or 36? 🙂

  4. TinyCO2 says:

Zero. The picture is an old one and all the bears have now drowned or been poisoned by industrial pollution previously trapped in the ice.

  5. Baa Humbug says:

    Moment please
The person to ask would be Inspector Harry Hoo, Maxwell Smarts mate from Hawaii

Remember, dead polar bears tell no tales.

  6. chris y says:

    Arthur: One, two, FIVE!

    Galahad: Three sir.

    Arthur: THREE!

  7. mikearoundtown says:

    FOUR

    • Amino Acids in Meteorites says:

Are you like that kid in that movie, “I see dead polar bears”? Or dead people, or something. I don’t know. This contest has me so confused.

      ;^)

  8. Sleepalot says:

I’ve been watching them for several seconds, and they haven’t moved. I suspect they’re dead.

  9. Amino Acids in Meteorites says:

Is this one of those things where you can count the number of apples on a tree but you can’t count the number of apples in an apple seed?? I’m so confused.

  10. PJB says:

There should be from 5 to 9, depending.

One male and two impregnated females. The females can have up to 3 polar bear pups per litter.

If it were 2 or 3 male polar bears, they would be fighting. It could not be 3 females, as they would be off searching for a male.

    QED

    • Jimash says:

That answers ( at least within the unknowable limits of polar bear perversion)
what the hell they are doing anyway !

  11. Grumpy Grampy ;) says:

We are only observing 1% of the entire research area so there are 300 polar bears if you properly extrapolate the observed quadrant to the entire area. The other project observed 11% to find 36 live and 27 of those drowned based on statistical extrapolation!

  12. Blade says:

Three Bears and one tasty arctic researcher?

Middle Polar Bear (speaking to one at right): Remember, when you hear that chopper coming, you play dead floating in the water and the two of us will be hiding in that snow bank. When they get here on foot to check you we’ll do the rest

  13. Grumpy Grampy ;) says:

    Steven:
You have provided a photo of the wrong Polar Bear. This is the dangerous critter they are studying.

  14. Grumpy Grampy ;) says:

How many researchers does it take to count Critters being killed by climate?
Three, one to count and two to watch for oncoming traffic.

  15. PhilJourdan says:

Do not count the bears. Count the bear intentions. For then there would be 6,317.
