George Monbiot : The Mayan Prophet

In 2002, George Monbiot predicted that we would all starve to death on Christmas Eve, 2012.

24 December 2002

Within as little as 10 years, the world will be faced with a choice: arable farming either continues to feed the world’s animals or it continues to feed the world’s people. It cannot do both.

Arable farming feeds the world’s animals?

    • I don’t think there is such a thing as non-arable farming (arable = fit for growing crops; perhaps he meant “crop farming”). And the worlds’ animals (well, mostly bugs and deer) loved the “arables” I grew.

      • gator69 says:

“Farming” feeds lions? Squirrels? The fish in the ocean?

Moronbat wanted to say “domestic livestock”, but realized that was not grand enough to scare us all into submission. Hyperbole at best.

        Lagarde is another fear monger…

“Unless we take action on climate change, future generations will be roasted, toasted, fried and grilled.”

        Boo!

    • Justa Joe says:

Beef Cattle eat at feed lots or they graze on land that’s not quite good enough to farm from what I’ve observed. Anyway I haven’t heard about farms being displaced by encroaching herds of domesticated live stock.

Nat Geo channel should make a show called Dooms Day Preachers where they chronicle these guys like Ehrlich, Hansen, and Monbiot.

  2. kbray in california says:

Instead Mon-idiot feeds us bullsh!t. Fail.

  3. Sundance says:

I thought it was going into my fuel tank. I was up to two starving poor people per tankful with my 10% ethanol mix and headed for 3 with the 15% mix that Obama wants to enact.

  4. The idiot does not realise that for thousands of years arable and pastoral farming have developed their own niches because of environmental factors.

So, wetter/colder areas tend to develop cattle and sheep farming, while warmer/drier areas tend to do for wheat etc. Fertile soils get vegetables, orchards and so on. Hilly areas are not suitable for ploughing, make good grasslands. And so on.

To think that you can overturn thousands of years of logic, and wave a magic wand to convert productive pastoral areas into arable ones, when the right conditions do not exist, highlights just how little connection socialists like Moonbat with reality.

  5. jeremyp99 says:

This – Monbiot – is a man who thinks that there is no way to “clean up” co2. A zoologist, he has never heard of photosynthesis.

    Time Moonbat got to STFU

  6. kirkmyers says:

Monbiot is clearly delusional. His ego will never permit him to admit he has been wrong all along about catastrophic global warming. His entire belief system depends on the preservation of the now-discredited AGW theory. It has become a substitute for religious belief. Earth-destroying global warming is now the secular equivalent of Biblical Armageddon.

    • Marian says:

Delusional appears to be a common symptom amongst the hardcore believers of CO2 AGW/CC. That’s why they appear to cry denier the loudest against those who question or reason their claims with facts. They’re in denial of their own delusion.

  7. jimash1 says:

I say we eliminate squirrels .
If our farmers have to spend valuable time farming to feed squirrels, then we can do without their antics./
“Squirrels first to go in 13 !”

  8. Justa Joe says:

Flawed and stalled as the plans for toxic waste may be, at least they exist. There is no way to clean up CO2, the greater evil
…Abandoning a proven and reliable low-carbon technology as climate breakdown accelerates is a special form of madness…
Neither the government nor the fossil fuel companies have any programme for cleaning up carbon dioxide. This waste is, in aggregate, orders of magnitude more dangerous than the materials produced by atomic energy plants, and even harder to make safe. It’s a choice of two evils, but one is much worse than the other. – George Monbiot

    Dude’s nuts.

  9. Dave N says:

Now farming feeds cars, and people go hungry.

  10. If he was a Warmist he could point to the obesity epidemic and then claim his prediction was vindicated. Rather than call it famine, he could rebrand it as an ‘extreme food’ event.

  11. sunsettommy says:

Dr. Appell for some reason is trying to be the father to us:

“So stop reading him. No one is forcing you to.”

“You can ignore anyone you want.
    Exercise your personal freedom.”

“So decline to read the newspaper.”

Why are you even here since there is no argument for you to pursue.

By the way is George your brother?

  12. sunsettommy says:

I am positive that David agrees with his brothers insane statements and that is why he is neglecting his kitchen sink and defending him here.

I mean with statements like these:
    “24 December 2002

Within as little as 10 years, the world will be faced with a choice: arable farming either continues to feed the world’s animals or it continues to feed the world’s people. It cannot do both.”

    and,

“Flawed and stalled as the plans for toxic waste may be, at least they exist. There is no way to clean up CO2, the greater evil
…Abandoning a proven and reliable low-carbon technology as climate breakdown accelerates is a special form of madness…

    What a family!

  13. sunsettommy says:

David Appell must be bored out of his skull to be defending a certified moron and brain damaged person.

  14. sunsettommy says:

David proves that he is going barking mad since the commentors in this thread did not write this garbage like this:

“Everyone has the right to complain. Your complaint is merely that Monbiot is doing a better job of it than you are.”

Are you stupid enough to stand by George Monbiot who writes utter tripe like this one?

    “24 December 2002

Only stupid people support stupid people.

  15. sunsettommy says:

When are you going to quit being stupid David”

“For someone who is not worth defending, you sure seem obsessed with what he writes.”

I hardy ever read his birdcage quality except by accident such as seeing it here. What you fail to realize is that you spend a lot of time telling us what we should do or not about how we react to this load of shit George writes:

    “24 December 2002

Within as little as 10 years, the world will be faced with a choice: arable farming either continues to feed the world’s animals or it continues to feed the world’s people. It cannot do both.”

Still going to pretend that you think you are being intelligent here?
