Online rumors about a big government munitions purchase are true, sort of.
The Homeland Security Department wants to buy more than 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition in the next four or five years. It says it needs them — roughly the equivalent of five bullets for every person in the United States — for law enforcement agents in training and on duty.
Published federal notices about the ammo buy have agitated conspiracy theorists since the fall. That’s when conservative radio host Alex Jones spoke of an “arms race against the American people” and said the government was “gearing up for total collapse, they’re gearing up for huge wars.”
The government’s explanation is much less sinister.
Federal solicitations to buy the bullets are known as “strategic sourcing contracts,” which help the government get a low price for a big purchase, says Peggy Dixon, spokeswoman for the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, Ga . The training center and others like it run by the Homeland Security Department use as many as 15 million rounds every year, mostly on shooting ranges and in training exercises.
Why is the Department of Homeland Security buying so many bullets? | Fox News
God forbid the journalist should actually put any thought into the article. It would take more than 100 years to go through that many bullets at 15 million rounds per year. The shelf life of ammo isn’t anywhere near that long.
They would save money by making a reasonably sized purchase. The DHS explanation is complete bullshit, but the MSM is perfectly happy to give them a free pass. The only reason for DHS to have that much ammunition – is because they plan to use it.
The Obama plan is to disarm Americans, and heavily arm his cabinet level para-military. What could possibly go wrong with that?
” … to disarm the people – that was the best and most effectual way to enslave them.“
– George Mason, 3 Elliot, Debates at 380
“[The Constitution preserves] the advantage of being armed which Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation…(where) the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms.”
–James Madison, The Federalist Papers, No. 46

Obama has a lead trigger finger. It’s all the shooting he does, skeet ya know. Gonna cause a clay shortage.
The chick that wrote this article refers to Alex Jones as a conservative. No main-line conservative would consider Alex Jones a conservative. Jones is conservative on some issues like IInd amendment, but he’s also a devotee of Noam Chomsky. Alex although he seems like good guy is on the kook fringe neither strictly conservative nor liberal.
I have listened to his radio show intermittently for several years. I got bored listening to the same old music from my iPod while rollerblading and searched for random podcasts that might be more interesting. I tried a bunch of boring science podcasts with over-the-top climate alarmism and then found this… character.
He really is not a conservative, but I think libertarianism would be reasonably close to his ideology, although he seems to refer libertarians as “they”. He was a fan of Ron Paul before Ron got a bit… something.
He dislikes strong central government like libertarians, but also things like private companies that grow too large and influental – a thing that an average libertarian might not oppose – since *any* entity that grows too strong no matter private or governmental is a threat to individual liberty. I think this makes sense although many of my libertarian friends disagree.
I disagree with him on many things. He seems to see conspiracies in everything and often his paranoid rants are just plain embarassing. He often says something is “admitted” or “a fact, you can check it out”, when it really is not. But still I think he is both informative, intelligent and entertaining. Most important of all he tries to provide a larger context to events – something that the media really doesn’t do anymore.
In MSM everything seems to happen in a vacuum, with no events preceeding or resulting from it.
The Associated Press article posted on Foxnews is saying well DHS uses 15 million rounds a year and all DHS is going to do from now is purchase 750 million rounds a year. That makes sense because a far-leftist is in the Whitehouse? That was DHS/AP’s idea of clarification for such huge purchases? – There is so much money to spend? “Homeland Security Department use as many as 15 million rounds every year, mostly on shooting ranges and in training exercises. Dixon said one of the contracts would allow Homeland Security to buy up to 750 million rounds of ammunition over the next five years for its training facilities.”
Trying to corner the market on favored ammunition. No excuse (for Obama, or for the media, including Fox News). Impeach, impeach, impeach.
