1.15 Trillion Tons Of New Ice On Greenland’s Surface

Since the end of August 2016, Greenland’s surface has gained 1.15 trillion tons of new ice, which is more than 50% above normal.  Surface mass balance is the difference between snowfall and melt. Snow is falling much faster than it is melting in Greenland.

2016-2017      2017-2018

This is not surprising, giving that ocean temperatures around Greenland are record cold.

Declining July 16 Temperatures In The US

July 16 was a relatively cool day in 1936, averaging only 94 degrees, but US July 16 afternoon temperatures have been declining since the 19th century.

On this date in 1901, 100 degree temperatures spread from California to Maine, and it was 113 degrees in Oklahoma.

New Ice Free Arctic Date

Arctic sea ice volume melt is slightly faster than two days ago, and my new projection for an ice-free Arctic is August 23 at 11:58 am.

Spreadsheet    Data

Some people may question my methodology, but it is the standard methodology of the world’s leading climate scientists – and I simply do not have the climate science seance academic qualifications to question them.

Gore: Polar ice cap may disappear by summer 2014

Note that my estimate is more conservative than the one made by Nobel Laureate Al Gore ManBearPig, and matches the one made by the Democrats’ leading climate prophet, which echoes the work of other scientists.

The New Normal For France

It has been twenty years since France won the World Cup.

Fifteen years ago, France was  just about to enter a heat wave which killed thousands of people.  I was freezing on the beach at Christchurch, England during early July 2003, but a few days later the weather warmed up.  (I wish I would have gone a week later when it was warm.)  During the first two weeks of August, temperatures in France were near 100 degrees.

27 Aug 2003, 5 – News Herald at Newspapers.com

Two months ago, climate experts declared the 2003 heatwave to be the new normal.

The study also finds that climate change made such an extreme heat event 4 times as likely.

Climate Signals | European Heat Wave 2003

As usual, the climate scientists who did this study didn’t use any actual data – which shows that 2003 was an outlier and that there has been no change in the number of hot days in France over the past 120 years.
