Katrina had a very low pressure (3rd lowest recorded at landfall) but was huge. The 3 landfalling catgory 5’s (Camille, Andrew and 1935) were quite small.
The big ones usually create more storm surge, the smaller ones, more severe but concentrated wind damage.
I actually saw a documentary on this hurricane – kind of. They were documenting the Florida Keys highway, and of course a big topic was the 35 hurricane. Given the number of people down there at the time, the loss of life was catastrophic.

They finally decided that the lowest pressure in the storm was 26.35″ or 892 millibars. Also extremely small and compact.

They have to spin down tight to get that pressure.
