The Associated Press article “Arctic scientist under investigation” that appeared in the Summit Daily News July 29 deserves some amplification. Whatever the charges against Monnett turn out to be, the danger to polar bears from warming in the Arctic has been substantiated by many peer-reviewed studies since Monnett’s original paper, most recently one published just this month showing that polar bear cub mortality increases as they now need to swim larger distances due to shrinking Arctic sea ice (and that shrinking is not in question: You can measure it from satellite photographs).
The Hudson Bay is ice free for several months every summer, yet the population there is doing just fine. No matter how far they swim, they will not find ice. The Polar Bear sea ice scam ranks right up there with the worst of them.
Forty years ago, old-timers living in the area around Hudson Bay were lucky to see a polar bear, Nirlungayuk says. “Now there are bears living as far south as James Bay.”
That’s the Alarmist Method: take a phenomenon and deduce that it must (or could) be causing some kind of problem, meanwhile ignoring data that says it really isn’t a problem at all.
It is worse than they claim because with the warming conditions since the LIA Polar Bears have increased in numbers as they enjoy the warmer climate like all animals. They have adapted to extreme cold but do better in warmer weather that allows them vegetation to eat for a balanced diet which is best for all omnivores.

It only makes sense that the polar bears would continue to migrate south as the poles warm… wait a minute… what?
