The Washington Post reports this shocking news
The GHCN station at nearby Beltsville, Maryland says that 2012 is the second warmest year.
But let’s move away from the urban sprawl, to the closest GHCN HCN station in Virginia. November was the coldest on record, temperatures have been declining for 80 years, and 2012 as a whole was below normal. The Washington DC temperature record is thoroughly contaminated by UHI, and is completely useless as a climate indicator.

The article blames the warming on the negative PDO which is a natural phenomena. Then further qualifies –
“The warming trend is thought to be a result of three primary factors: 1) the move of D.C.’s observing station from 24th and M St. to the warmer Reagan National Airport in the 1940s 2) urbanization 3) climate warming from increasing greenhouse gas emissions. The relative contribution of these three factors to the warming is complicated and not known with certainty.”
In other words, they have no idea.
I assume it’s official? Local weather is now climate?
Are we surprised that there is a lot of hot air in Washington D.C.?
I thought it would have cooled after Gore left. LOL
Being in the immediate DC area, Reagan National Airport during daytime is always 2-4 degrees warmer than what my car thermometer shows. Also 2-3 degrees warmer than Dulles and Andrews AFB. Even during a windy day, when there is no temperature gradient and plenty of mixing. That was never the case in the days prior to the AGW scam.
During a calm night, differences are of course much larger.
This DC record 2012 heat record is a total fraud. Conservatively, you have to reduce their temp by 2-3 degrees. Very nice job, Steve.
The cause of the trouble is clear. There is too much hot air coming out of Washington D.C.
Yes, you can create the same Lincoln graph right here

The last 10 yrs in Lincoln have been the coldest it’s been in about 100 years!
