The Arctic is rapidly melting, and global warming causes warm air (from the rapidly melting Arctic) to plunge south – and make lower latitudes freeze in record cold.
Disrupting the Borg is expensive and time consuming!

It’s kind of the universe’s slowest death spiral…

Must’ve been a big melt in ’28, ’39, ’40, ’41, ’46 & ’62!
Understanding winter cold is one but how about understanding this: Doha: USA must pay for climate change loss and damage: http://wattsupwiththat.com/2012/12/12/doha-conference-united-states-must-pay-for-climate-change-loss-and-damage/#more-75625
Climatology will be up there with spoon bending as serious science if these guys keep this up.

What kind of logic:
warm air > plunge south > lower latitudes freeze
What causes the freeze – did someone leave the fridge door open?
Just remember that the last millennium 1000 β 2000 AD was the coolest of the current benign Holocene epoch and that at ~12,000 years our happy Holocene, (responsible for the development of all human civilizations) is getting long in the tooth. Itβs end is now overdue when compared with earlier shorter more intense interglacials such as the previous Eemian. See the Inconvenient Sceptic John Kehr figures 65 and 71.
So whether the current sunspot cycle and ocean circulation cycles lead to Little Ice Age conditions or perhaps to the impending real end of the Holocene during this millennium, the one thing we should not be concerned about is a little Global Warming within the level of natural variations that have been seen in the past 1000 / 3000 years.
A cooling, rather than a warming, world leads to both a reduction in agricultural productivity with huge deprivation for Mankind worldwide and probably to more extreme weather events, (possibly like hurricane Sandy).
There is good reason to expect worsening weather events in a cooling world because the temperature differential between the tropics and the poles will be enhanced.
The Holocene ended 5,000 to 8,000 years ago. We are experiencing the cooling into the next Glacial Maximum. We are just lucky enough to experience one of the many milder periods during that slide toward a Glacial Maximum.
Releasing all the CO2 locked up in all the fossil fuels will not be able to stop the slide toward a colder world.
Yes but we must try. By burning all the fossil fuels we can. If not for us, for our children’s sake. π
From 1936:
“So, if an ice age begins next year, it will be several thousand years before England is covered with ice. The first signs would probably be a series of very snowy winters and cloudy summers. The snow on the Scottish Highlands would last late into the spring, and then throughout the year. There would be a boom in winter sports in Scotland. Within a century a few small glaciers would be forming on the northern sides of some of the Scottish mountains, and all over the world the existing glaciers would be pushing their way downwards. But there would be few headlines. The northern lands and Switzerland would be gradually abandoned. Centuries before any town was over-whelmed by the ice it would have been quietly evacuated, owing to the cold, and have become a mere name in the history books.”
