In 2008, Australia’s top climate scientist declared that Australia was in a permanent drought.

This drought may never break
IT MAY be time to stop describing south-eastern Australia as gripped by drought and instead accept the extreme dry as permanent, one of the nation’s most senior weather experts warned yesterday.
“Perhaps we should call it our new climate,” said the Bureau of Meteorology’s head of climate analysis, David Jones.
After only two years of Julia’s carbon tax, Australia has been completely cured!
Kudos to Julia for lying her way into office – in order to save the planet.

Australians can tell when they’ve been lied to by politicians and the ballot box is near.
And the chuckleheads still keep the Wivenhoe full so they have enough water to handle the non drought but can’t use the dams and reservoirs as they were intended. . . as a giant bucket to absorb the annual rains and prevent the flooding by gradually releasing the water after the rains.
Too bad about the folks who died in the floods and the $$$Billions lost in property damage.
If McKibben thinks recent flooding in eastern Australia is the worst ever seen he should have looked to 1974, 2001, 2011 that I know of personally.
1974 was worse than 2011 which was worse than 2001 – not to downplay 2001 in northern NSW – Queensland escaped the worst flooding in 2001.
The 1894 flood in Brisbane is still the highest recorded – 1974 second – and by a much higher margin over 2011.
And Wivenhoe is currently at 88 % water storage capacity – it was at over 100% water storage capacity in late 2010 and kept there because there was no decisive advice that it needed to be reduced and after a long drought no-one was going to release precious water unless absolutely necessary.
By the time the BOM issued definitive advice about the impending weather events of January 2011 it was necessary to commence releasing water but this caused flooding. Wivenhoe approached 200 % water storage capacity and was at risk of catastrophic failure.
No repeat this year with 120 % water storage capacity available for flood control.
If politicians hadn’t listen to alarmists and believed them the 2011 Brisbane flood would have been no worse than this year – minor !
We also would not have wasted billions on a desalination plant which may be never required before its operational lifespan expires.
This makes 30 months here where cloud, rain and below average temperatures have prevailed – much more than normal since I moved to Caloundra in 1986.
Children just aren’t going to know what days of clear blue skies are !
As I’ve noted before major flood events in that part of the world are strongly correlated with the behaviour of the southern oscillation index. This is because masses of water laden air gets pushed into that region for sustained periods of time. It’s a well know meteorological phenomena and requires no appeal to CO2 in order to explain it.
Julia Gillard said that there would be no CO2 tax in order to get elected, then she brought in a CO2 tax, then the electorate turned savagely against her and at the September 2013 elections, she will leave office. The population knows that Australia’s droughts and flooding rains have nothing to de with CO2 or taxes as they were identified by Poetess Dorothea McKellar in 1908 when there were no SUV’s. Nothing has altered since then.
“I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.”
Julia’s Toxic Carbon Dioxide Tax saves the NSW ski resorts in record time.
“Steady rainfall throughout the rest of the year saw Cooma record its second highest annual rainfall total.
A total of 818.5mm of rain fell in 2012, shy of the highest recorded in Cooma in 1974 of 842.9mm.
The extreme rainfall was not the only unique weather event last year.
While NSW ski resorts recorded some of the best snowfall in eight years, in August snowflakes fell in Cooma and the surrounding area.”

Warragamba dam levels now at 100% capacity and overflowing. As already noted, low dam levels were blamed on CO2 and the construction of a costly desalination plant was undertaken on the basis of claims made by climate science experts. It’s possible that the desalination plant will never see active service.
