A new paper published in Climatic Change examined the increased frequency of record-breaking monthly temperature records over the past 130 years and found that these records are now five times more likely to occur due to global warming, with much more to come.
Opinion: Global warming’s impact to be felt more in 2013 – NorthJersey.com
This is complete garbage. The reason they are finding more record temperatures now is because they are adding more stations. If a station was added after 1980, its record temperatures will all occur after 1980.
Doing an apples to apples comparison where we only use the same stations – it becomes obvious that maximum monthly temperature records peaked during the 1930s, and that no year since 1955 has even cracked the top ten.
Is the author completely incompetent, dishonest – or both?
Both.
I left response on their site with link-backs to your post.
For every new station we start, we can have both a record high and record low every day of the year! If we open up enough, we can say that weather is getting more extreme! These people deserve a Nobel Prize for downright sleaziness and phony balony.
Obviously BOTH! I have read about more than 100 “Expert Climatologists” that support the conclusion of that paper and I would describe as BOTH!
Even the US State Records run by NCDC admits this.

Meanwhile in Sweden –
“We Are Creating Great Anxiety Without It Being Justified. Yes, humankind is affecting the climate. But no, there are no indications that the warming is so severe that we need to panic”, says Lennart Bengtsson, one of the most accomplished Swedish climate scientists, who has been more and more “frustrated” by the debate of late.
