Alex Hill, chief government advisor with the Met Office, said the amount of snow in the Scottish mountains had been decreasing for the last 40 years and there was no reason for the decline to stop.
He added: “Put it this way, I will not be investing in the ski-ing industry. Will there be a ski industry in Scotland in 50 years’ time? Very unlikely.”

Fast forward to 2013
Scottish ski resorts eye summer season

FORGET the beach barbecues. Scots could be heading to the slopes this June, with two of the country’s ski resorts predicting there will still be snow on the ground at the height of summer.
It’s grim news for those worn down by freezing temperatures, but for the operators of Scotland’s five ski centres, remaining open for a full six months would be the pinnacle of a successful season.
The second coldest March on record and a busy Easter weekend have seen snow sports enthusiasts flocking to the slopes. More than 250,000 wintersports enthusiasts have visited Scotland’s ski centres since the beginning of December.
Colin Kirkwood, marketing manager at CairngormMountain, said: “To get to June would be amazing.”
Summer ski-ing in Scotland is almost unprecedented. Cairngorm has managed it just once, in 2010.

I love it. After “a generation of unprecedented global warming caused by man’s use of fossil fuels” Scotland may manage two summer skiing seasons in the last 3 years.
2009 to 2013 = 50 years?
You need to check your arithmetic.
Intelligent people understand that the trend is going in the opposite direction.
Morons depend on Ouija boards and mindless predictions with no basis.
It is clear which group you fall in.
Gina,
The point is it’s not going according to plan. It’s headed the wrong way completely. Please read this list and I’m sure you will understand where I’m coming from.
Examples:
I am aware Viner does not work at the Met Office but just read his claim. It’s claims like these that we are fighting against with observations.
By the way Gina you missed the first quoted paragraph. Here it is again with my bold.
I do believe that has stopped.
Alex Hill should be placed in a stock and placed in a public square where freezing people can humiliate him for his ignorance. Sometimes the old ways are best. 😉
