The teacher should have known better. The White House only permits the use of two tools by the workers.

  1. Sadly, what a spineless pathetic country the US has become, much like a lot of other places in the West.

    Wow. Just wow.

For a high school history project, I made gunpowder. The teacher even egged me on to light it.

A once great nation, made abject slaves.

    • bkivey says:

I hear you. In 9th grade science class, we made gunpowder and created a new pothole in the parking lot, made hydrogen and lit it, and shot off model rockets, all under the teacher’s supervision. In 10th grade I built a still for class, and in 12th grade physics we built catapults (aka ‘weapons’). None of this happened in the dusty past or in private schools, but in public schools in the late 70’s.

  3. Marian says:

Hammer and sickle. Both can be used as weapons, so ban them aswell. 🙂

Peasants used to revolt using garden tools, Forks, sickles, etc.

  4. kbray in california says:

It’s so bad they can’t even tell the difference between “garden tools” and “garden-variety tools such as pliers, wrenches, and screwdrivers”…

    ——————-
“a second-grade teacher who was suspended after he displayed garden-variety tools such as wrenches, pliers and screwdrivers in his classroom as part of a “tool discussion” in his class.”

The headline is also misleading and inaccurate….. pathetic all in all.

  5. The article, sadly, is very misleading. Zero tolerance is bad, and should be eliminated. But we should have little tolerance for sloppy or slanted reporting!

As kbray notes above, the headline talks about “garden tools.” They’re not. They are shop tools, described in the source article as “garden-variety tools.”

But that’s an ignorant mistake. One that is more insidious is that the list of tools shown to the second-graders included a box-cutter and a pocket knife. All of the source documents I found included these in the list of tools. The CNS reporter evidently intentionally omitted these two items, to increase the outrage at the cost of conservatives getting bad information.

Most of us, me included, would have no problem with a second-grader being shown a box-cutter and a pocket knife. By that age, I had such a knife, given to me by my grandfather. But there are a thousand-plus comments on that article, almost all complaining about how ridiculous it was to call a screwdriver and a pair of pliers “weapons” and calling for school officials’ resignations on that basis.

Bad information cripples our arguments. CNS should be more reliable than this; their whole point is to give conservatives straight info.

Oh, the reporter omitted the little detail that this story is almost two years old, as well. It happened in August 2011.

    ===|==============/ Keith DeHavelle

    • Initially I thought this was satire but sadly I’ve concluded it is not.

RE: Keith DeHavelle – “the reporter omitted the little detail that this story is almost two years old”

I am amazed that you fault the deceptiveness of the article, yet you were also deceptive. You eliminated the little detail that this story is about a lawsuit, which is not two years old. The suit wasn’t filed until April 16th. See the top of the .pdf linked in the article. That the plaintiff allowed time to pass before filing suit, does not diminish the current event status of the suit. The plaintiff filed within the statute of limitations.

      “Teacher Sues School over Suspension”

      • David says:

True, but the criticism is both well meaning and correct. The story, revealed in all details, is plenty strong to stand on its own as a condemnation of PC policy, and for one arguing the damming PC nature of the supension of the teacher, they should not be allowed to walk into a trap.

  6. R. de Haan says:

    I hear you boiling.

  7. tckev says:

“Zero tolerance” is intolerance and I for one will not stand for it!

  8. Chewer says:

    Political correctness?
In Washington DC, the teachers are not allowed to show bright red colors, as they may scare the little ones…
Our PC world is the downfall of everything that’s right!
