Are you worried Edmonton Al? If so why? There are dozens of peer reviewed research papers indicating that the Arctic has been ice free in Summers on numerous occasions during the Early Holocene even when CO2 levels were below 300 ppm. Here’e one example.

      http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0277379110003185

It has been reported that clouds were the major cause of Greenland melt in 2012. The link between CO2 and ice melt is on very thin ice. 🙂

    • Robert Austin says:

      Al,
You do realize that “all time” only goes back to 1979, don’t you? And that the 1979 starting point was at a local maximum in Arctic ice extent. Besides, why would any sane person from Edmonton be concerned by rising temperatures and shrinking ice?

      • squid2112 says:

And rising sea levels. Don’t forget about the rising sea levels! … just like when your glass of iced tea overflows when your ice melts. Dang Arctic sea ice is going to drown us all!

      Thanks Josh 🙂

    • Otter says:

Which means there were 4 lower. Out of 33 years. Let us know when you have measurements for the other 4 1/2 billion years.

    • Andy Oz says:

      Excerpt from the publication:

“The Arctic region is in darkness during winter and the predominant type of radiation is long-wave or infrared, which is associated with greenhouse warming,” Joey Comiso, senior scientist at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Md., and a principal investigator of NASA’s Cryospheric Sciences Program, said.

“A decline in the sea ice cover in winter is thus a manifestation of the effect of the increasing greenhouse gases on sea ice,” he said.

      ______

I see something very strange about cousin Joey’s statement!!
      1. Like infrared radiation causing warming in winter when the arctic is in permanent darkness and is -30 deg C? That is just completely wacky.
      2. Like increasing sea ice in the Antarctic not behaving with the GHG hypothesis?

Either the media release was done by Obama’s publicist or it was stuffed up being translated into Hindi and then back into English using google translate.

    • “…According to a NASA analysis, this year the annual maximum extent was reached on February 28 and it was the fifth lowest sea ice winter extent in the past 35 years…”

And why would they only go back to 1978?

Why don’t they just go up and take an ice core, and tell us the conditions of the Arctic ice for the past 1500 years?

Besides, that “fifth lowest” idea has quite a few problems: see the chart here:

First, they use a mean period of 1979-2000, leaving out the last decade from the mean.

So when they say: “…The 2013 winter extent is 144,402 square miles (374,000 square kilometers) below the average annual maximum extent for the last three decades…” they’re lying. They haven’t included the years of 2001-2012 as part of the “last three decades).

Include those years in the mean, and tell us how far off the “average” 2013 really is.

    • Jimmy Haigh. says:

Are you a fan of “The Oilers”. Being in Edmonton and all…

  1. tckev says:

Steve, they said that the check was in the post.

  2. Mike Mangan says:

Steve is secretly funded by Big Soccer.

  3. daveburton says:

No checks yet for me, either, but I’m doing better than you, Steve! I got a free T-shirt last year (or maybe it was the year before last), from Energy Citizens, in exchange for an afternoon of my time.

Speaking of Energy Citizens, SourceWatch says of them, “Energy Citizens is a front group backed by the American Petroleum Institute.” But the American Heritage Dictionary says “front” is a noun meaning, “An apparently respectable person, group, or business used as a cover for secret or illegal activities.” So Energy Citizens is doing a pretty lousy job as a “front group.” If they want to be a proper front group, they ought to start by removing “supported by the American Petroleum Institute” from the bottom of every page on their web site.

Archive.org shows that the EnergyCitizens.org web site has always said the organization is supported by the API, even in the first version archived, 2.5 years ago. Yet SourceWatch nevertheless called Energy Citizens a “front group” even in the first version of their web page archived, five months ago.

SourceWatch is just as disingenuous about their own backing. Their web site says, “We accept no funding from for-profit corporations or grants from government agencies.” That’s highly misleading. They’re deceiving their readers without quite technically lying. The truth is that they get millions of dollars from corporations, but they get it laundered by left-wing foundations, which hand out grant money that they receive from big corporations. Read about them here:

Careful! You don’t want to slip up and give away our tax free status, orchestrated by Big Oil. And don’t let anyone get photos of that tanker truck delivering your monthly gasoline allowance. Can’t wait for the Koch brothers to bring me my new Hummer!

I’m going out back now to play with my oily birds.

    • Traitor In Chief says:

I need to go find some birds to throw oil on. It’s hard work to be evil every day.

      • gator69 says:

It is hard work, but damn rewarding!

I take great pleasure in knowing that I am mercilessly killing the planet, and everything on it. I hate all of humanity, including my own family, and wish them all a miserable existence and horrible death. Yes, fouling the water and air, burning trees and furry critters, dooming mankind and leaving a smoking hole of a planet has always been the goal of conservatives.

Well, back to work. I saw some clean water while driving my motor home to Walmart, to buy more plastic and styrofoam to burn as fuel, so I’m going to have to pull over and empty the septic now.

        Happy trails! 😉

        Have a nice day! 😉

      • Traitor In Chief says:

        Laughter… 🙂

  5. Me says:

So I take it that when Greenpiss and the like came looking for funding from the Koch Brothers, they were told to piss off err something! 😆

  6. Kaboom says:

Big Oil moolah is the money that greases the green machine, courtesy of your tax dollars, not the one earned by keeping civilisation going.

    • Marian says:

      Yeah.

It’s so pot calling the kettle black when halfwit Greenies and AGW/CC believers rant on about Big Oil funding GW Skeptics.

Since Big Oil has contributed far more $$$ to them major International environmental movements and the pro AGW/CC believing institutes and research. Than it ever has to any ‘evil’ AGW/CC denier research or funding over the years.

And I’m still wating for my check from big oil too then. Being an ‘evil’ denier skeptic. 🙂

  7. Traitor in Chief says:

Steyer is just another rentseeking Hedgefund prick that wants to be even richer than he already is….. at our expense.

  8. So this billionaire is going to hurl more money into an effort to destroy critics of AGW……. the effort itself being around 20 years old and having failed so far to destroy AGW critics. And Steyer thinks he himself has some kind of magic bullet to finally kill off the skeptics? Anything wrong with that line of thinking?

    • miked1947 says:

The more they mouth off the better we look!

    • squid2112 says:

Eh, so he wastes a few million here, a few million there. I say “go full in” .. give it all you got there Steyer! As if he has enough money to make a dent … ROFLMAO

      • squid2112 says:

And actually kinda makes one wonder how someone so stupid got so rich.

      • That’s because you can be brilliant at X and stupid at everything else. If X makes you money, that works out well.

      • Traitor In Chief says:

“X” here is Big Green rentseeking. It is a concern that Big Green would win funding from Big Gov, and use some of it to elect more scumbags who will send more funding. A circle jerk of money stolen from….. us. The only thing standing between America and disaster is the House.

  9. Bob Tisdale says:

The big problem: The Big-Oil executives read those claims by warmists and assume their companies actually send us money. That’s why we’ll never see a dime, Steve.

  10. greg2213 says:

Based on the pic above, I’d say that jimuhh (and company) got his check from Al Gore. Have to keep the hysteria funded.

  11. The renewable energy sector, carbon trading markets, and peddlers of alarm do it for the good of the planet. Sure, they make huge sums of money, but that is a sort of bonus that comes out of excess virtue.

  12. Brian G Valentine says:

Is there anyone out there on the other side who can fathom that “deniers” seek nothing but protection of the poor and disadvantaged from stupidity?

Why is that so hard for them to grasp?

  13. Hey, I got a comment called out at Forbes with lots of your links in it. If that doesn’t start the oil money flowing, well… don’t get your hopes up, but I’ll still buy you a beer:

  14. To date, this blog has generated exactly $0.00 or $0.00 (Canadian.)

Why should we believe this? You’re not honest about your name, and so you’re not expected to be honest about anything else.

    • Brian G Valentine says:

Jim Hansen hasn’t been honest reporting his income to his employer, why should we believe him about anything he says?

So if the name is a pseudonym, who do checks get made out to?

    • Andy Oz says:

      Hi Dave,
Glad to see you haven’t gone into meltdown with the recent retirement of Jimmy Hansen.
I guess you’ll be putting your hand up for the vacancy? Pro bono of course.

    • Chewer says:

Does real data trump GCM predictions?
Why do all scientists agree on set scientific theories, but only liberals have full faith in the AGW working hypothesis?

    • Ivan says:

Oh look. It’s Friday, and the moron has been let out of his padded cell for the weekend.

    • You must have missed the day in Creative Writing class when they discussed “nom-de-plume”.

You know, such as Dr. Seuss (Theodor Geisel), Richard Bachmann (Stephen King),
Isaac Bickerstaff, Esq. (Jonathan Swift), Currer, Ellis, and Acton Bell (the Brontë sisters), Tamino (Grant Foster).

If you want to talk honesty in funding, ask Tamino why he requests his “donations” be sent to “Peaseblossom’s Closet” and the donation is for “Mistletoe”.

      • Brian G Valentine says:

I’ve wondered why Foster didn’t pick a pseudonym more consistent with his hyper inflated ego and nasty disposition

      • Brian asked:

“…I’ve wondered why Foster didn’t pick a pseudonym more consistent with his hyper inflated ego and nasty disposition…”

Well, upon research, I’ve found that mistletoe gets spread by birds – “…mistletoe tends to spring from bird droppings that have fallen on trees, with the seeds having passed through the digestive tract of the birds. At the time the plant was given this name, the people didn’t know anything about that, but had observed that mistletoe seemed to spring into existence from bird droppings on trees, thus “mistle” or “missel”, which meant basically “dung”, and “toe”, which came from the Anglo-Saxon “tan” meaning “twig”; hence, mistletoe is another way to essentially say “poop twig”…”

        Source: http://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2010/12/the-word-mistletoe-literally-means-dung-twig/#OezXGLusUz42VWLh.99

So he chose OpenMind, because not many people would go to PoopOnAStick.com (that, and somebody already claimed it: http://pooponastickdotcom.blogspot.com/).

    • Looking at one of Appell’s pic’s it looks like he is receiving funding from Kentucky Fried Chicken.

    • sunsettommy says:

Do YOU have evidence that Steve has been given “big oil” money for his blog?

      • Traitor In Chief says:

Steve, I only have the can of oil I was planning to throw on a bird, but I will sell it, and send you the money. Crap, you don’t even have a tip jar.

    • Hugh K says:

High Dave. I just love it when you take precious time away from your cats to come here and play concerned climate scientist. Truly an honor!
I’m sure you are anxious to return to your cat therapy trying to resolve Peaches and Lulu’s issues, so just a couple of quick questions – Are you being honest about recycling cat litter into your daily source of granola? If so, do you feed the kitties the dried dates first or add them later…or are you just pretending that those items are dried dates? If not, approximately how many tons of cat litter do you contribute to your community landfill each year? As always, thanks for your insight…

  15. Snafu says:

Speaking of BIG money (big Wind). Have you received any cheques from Vito Nicastri?

Thought this was interesting. Looks like there’s going to be huge increases in sea-ice over the next week.

From the Anchorage Sea Ice Desk:
“FORECAST THROUGH MONDAY…EAST OF 165W…EASTERLY FLOW THROUGH
SATURDAY WILL MOVE THE ICE TO THE WEST 35 TO 45 NM. STRONG AND COLD
NORTHEAST TO NORTH FLOW SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY WILL MOVE THE
ICE TO THE SOUTH 30 TO 40 NM WITH NEW ICE FORMING ALONG THE EDGE. THE
NET ICE MOVEMENT WILL BE TO THE SOUTHWEST 35 TO 45 NM.

FORECAST THROUGH MONDAY…165W TO 178W…MODERATE TO STRONG EAST TO
NORTHEAST FLOW WILL DEVELOP TONIGHT AND CONTINUE THROUGH FRIDAY. THE
ICE EDGE WILL MOVE TO THE WEST 35 TO 45 NM THROUGH FRIDAY. STRONG AND
COLD NORTHEAST TO NORTH FLOW WILL DEVELOP SATURDAY AND CONTINUE
THROUGH MONDAY CAUSING THE ICE TO MOVE TO THE SOUTH 45 TO 60 NM. THE
NET ICE MOVEMENT WILL BE TO THE SOUTHWEST 80 TO 100 NM THROUGH
MONDAY. ICE WILL MOVE PAST SAINT PAUL FRIDAY AND PAST SAINT GEORGE
    SUNDAY.

EXTENDED OUTLOOK 165W TO 178W…A COMPARISON OF LONG RANGE WEATHER
MODELS SHOW VASTLY DIFFERENT SOLUTIONS AFTER TUESDAY OF NEXT WEEK. IT
IS LIKELY THE NORTHERLY FLOW WILL CONTINUE AT LEAST THROUGH WEDNESDAY
OF NEXT WEEK. THERE IS A CHANCE OF SOUTHERLY FLOW RETURNING TO THE
CENTRAL BERING BY THE END OF NEXT WEEK.

FORECAST THROUGH MONDAY WEST OF 178W…STRONG NORTHEAST FLOW WILL
CONTINUE THROUGH SATURDAY AND DIMINISH SUNDAY AND MONDAY. THE ICE
WILL MOVE TO THE SOUTHWEST 45 TO 65 NM THROUGH MONDAY. ”

Looks like the ice edge in the Bering Sea will be expanding 40-100 miles to the south this week.

Look, if you’re really in this for the money, get some schooling from the pros:

    http://nofrakkingconsensus.com/2013/04/04/greens-against-growth-except-their-own/

These folks know how to grow um, shall we say, an enterprise. Us skeptics are small beer by comparison.

Oh and when did anybody ever have long-term success with a money vs. truth smack-down? The warmista clown-posse is in for thrashing by my accounts no matter how much dough they come up with. Creeps. Dipsh*ts.

It’s only a matter of time before enough people get clued at just how clueless the alleged settled-science of Man-Made-Global-Warming is.

All they have left is hysterical sophistry – money will not help their cause.

  20. sunsettommy says:

T.O.O. the imbecile who could not buy a clue over the question I asked David Appell about, makes this crap and insanely post it:

    “Tommy,
There is as much proof that money has been given to Steve to advance his personal point of view as Steve has when he says money has been given to climate scientists for the same reason. The only difference is that Steve says it far more often.”

Where is the “much proof that money has been given to Steve” you babbled about?

Now I watch you evade with more bullshit.

    • gator69 says:

It is in his nature, like the scorpion. Laz the Liar cannot help himself, he has agendas and not principles. We can watch as he repeatedly lies, gets caught, and then comes back again and again as if nothing happened. A quick name change (no he is not smarter than a fifth grader) and the lies continue. Zero shame from these frauds.

  21. sunsettommy says:

I see that the latest brainless troll was removed. He like David Appell could not back up their claims that Steve got “big oil” money for his blog.David calls him a liar without evidence and TOO employs the “I have a lot of proof” comment without evidence behind it.

They are that stupid when they make claims impossible to prove and get caught on it by us rational people who long understood that evidence has to exist BEFORE making serious claims of alleged improper behavior or lies and deceptions.

Is it any wonder why so many nations are screwed up these days with so many bad voting decisions?
