A Subtle Change In The Republican Party

In 1980, we had Ronald Reagan.

“As government expands, liberty contracts.”
? Ronald Reagan

In 2014, we have Republicans wanting to stop global warming, and preserve Obamacare.

I believe the only solution is to move the seat of gummint out of the D of C. It’s a sociological swamp where liberals control the media, the cocktail parties, the Hootchy-Kootchy, and other perceived measures of “status” and “cool”

Require legislators to stay in their districts, force all legislative deliberation to be on-line video conference, and ship the Supreme Court to Guantanamo.

In addition, set 15 year limits on civil servants regardless of GS grade. Flush the sewer regularly to get rid of the slime.

  2. Gail Combs says:

    1. Make Congress READ THE BILLS.

    2. Make Congress repeal one law for every new law passed.

    3. Put a ten year sunset clause in every law.

    4. Make professional paid lobbists illegal.

And as you said replace the big hogs with new little piggies.

Gail Combs said: “1. Make Congress READ THE BILLS.”

Gail there you go again, cozying up to the Teachers Unions. Now we’ll have to teach Congress how to read and write.

    • Gamecock says:

      4. Make professional paid lobbists illegal.

      ======================

      Head fake.

Lobbyists are the necessary and appropriate response to government wielding unlimited power. They are the result, not the cause. Enforce the Constitution, and they will evaporate.

E.g., Obama wants to force long haul trucks to use natural gas. Lobbyists show up to fight it.

E.g.2. Lobbyists show up and want the government to force gasoline companies to put their corn squeezin’s in their gasoline. If government said to the lobbyists, “We have no authority to control what’s in gasoline, ” the lobbyists would go check out the Smithsonian before going back home.

The fascist state begets lobbyists. It is the fascist state that is the problem.

      • Donna K. Becker says:

In other words, separation of state and economics would eliminate lobbyists–as I’ve been saying for years!

  3. Andy Oz says:

Democrats want Republicans to believe in Climate change mindlessly just like they do.
Democrats also want the government to control and provide everything, and want Republican voters to think the same way. Democrats want a one party state.

Move the House, Senate and the Supremes to gitmo. And leave the rest of us alone.

  5. darrylb says:

How about ‘Preserve global warming and stop Obamacare’
After this winter, I could use a little warming!

  6. darrylb says:

If I could make one change for the U.S., it would be to cause everyone to want to take ownership of and pride in contributing to the U.S. Currently, we are moving in the wrong direction.
Just a note, my wife and I have been foster and adoptive parents of children with special needs for decades.
They find the most satisfaction and happiness when they feel that their contributions are valued.
They will then try so very hard at the most modest of endeavors. They need maximum incentives and minimum government intervention.— Although they do need some.

    • Gail Combs says:

That in a nutshell is why capitalism works and socialism doesn’t.

I figured that out at the tender age of eight when my newly infected brother was arguing about how great Marxism was with my father.

  7. Randy Vernon says:

Make all three branches of the government (congress, executive and judicial) live under the new law for three (3) years, BEFORE it applies to the general public. Let them experiment on the government and see how well it works first! If the new law is a BAD idea, and THEY have to deal with the problems, it will be overturned before it gets to US!

  8. aeroguy48 says:

What I continually shake my head at, is there are so many freakin laws we have to cover everything and more. The original intent of congress be it local State or Federal was to pass budgets ie. spending then go home. We have gotten so far away from that. It is a never ending feeding of the government trough and the need to ‘pass a law’ to rectify something that passes the ‘publics’ fancy but never gets repealed after the effects go away. Why do we need a law for everything?

  9. Gail Combs says:

Why do we need a law for everything?

    Power, Money and Control.

Note that all the laws are wrapped in a “Its good for you” candy coating but they never quite live up to that false advertising.

    1. EVERYONE is now a law breaker. Annoy someone important and get hassled or go to jail. Be a suck-up to someone important and the DA or ‘Court System’ is too ‘busy’ to prosecute.
(I went through that with the courts here in town about various robberies, not once but four times!)

Consider the difference in the handling of the Peter Glick/Heartland case and the Mark Steyn/Mann lawsuit. One literally confessed to breaking the law but is not prosecuted and the other is a whining cry baby yet the state takes his side at the cost of millions in legal fees.

    2. Large Corporations LOVE Regulations because they kill off the competition Despite all the diversionary tactics to make people think differently, large corporations are ‘Socialistic’ and love regulations especially when their former employees are running the bureaucracy that is supposed to regulate them. Regulations are the best weapon for killing off the competition and for making sure no middle class person ever even THINKS about starting a competing business. – How would you start a pharmaceutical company?
    (snicker)

E.M.Smith is an economist. I highly recommend his comment that made the light bulb turn on for me in regards to why corporations love regulation:
Examples of how the system works.

    3. Taxes and Control Government, Big Business and Bankers all agree that the best system for maximizing profit is to herd everyone into cities and make them take jobs with big corporations.

    A. Corporations collect ALL the tax money for the Government so there is no ‘shadow economy.’ In small towns with lots of small businesses were everyone knows each other barter or cash that can easily be hidden is used. The big boys, Government Corporations and Banks don’t get to rake-off a percentage from every transaction. That by the way is the real goal of all those regulations. Therefore the decision was made after WWII to kill off the semi-independent villages and drive labor into the cities. This means the Big Corporations gets to pick and choice labor at rock bottom wages instead of enticing labor from farm, family and village with high wages. Government is insured a slice of those wages and so are the bankers who keep the wage earners money “safe” SEE:

    B. Corporations use direct deposit forcing you to put wages into a bank where it is used as the foundation to create more fiat funny money via Fractional Reserve Banking. link Banks often tie a credit card to your checking account to entice you into using a credit card vs having to physically go to the bank to withdraw cash. Merchants pay 5% on everything you buy with a credit card. – pure profit for the banks. Merchants entice you to buy now pay later. Again more profit for the banks. Credit card interest and other forms of personal interest were deductible on income taxes some years ago, but Congress eliminated that ‘Loophole’ so it is a win-win for all parties but you the only productive one of the lot. (Feel like a lamb among wolves dividing you up for dinner yet?)
