Learning To Distinguish Different Types Of Cold

Jeff Masters says that this winter’s cold is due to global warming.

As the latest blast of wintry weather sweeps across the United States, making temperature reach its record low in March, Jeff Masters, director of meteorology at the Weather Underground – a commercial weather service that provides real-time weather information via the Internet, told in an interview to the Voice of Russia whether frequent winter storms, which hit US over the last few months, can be the result of the impact of climate change.

It is important that we learn to distinguish between natural cold, global cooling cold, and global warming cold. The chart below makes the distinctions abundantly clear.

  1. Obviously! Why didn’t I see this before?

That which has been is what will be,
That which is done is what will be done,
And there is nothing new under the sun.

Climatologists, weather forecasters, and politicians are now secretly getting their vocabularies out of the futuristic book George Orwell started writing in 1946:

Don’t think you could pack any more stupid into one person/organization than Jeff Masters/Weather Underground.

  5. pyeatte says:

You almost don’t want to say it but, Jeff Masters seems retarded.

  6. Walt Allensworth says:

    It’s all so clear now.

    Bwahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Sorry, can’t say it with a straight face. Whew.

    Good One Mr. Goddard.

  8. richard says:

damn it of course, when pointed out it is so obvious.

  9. Sundance says:

If that chart was made into a Rorschach test card, would 97% of climate scientists’ immediate response be “warming” when it was flashed?

Jeff Masters says that this winter’s cold is due to global warming.

I don’t know which would make less sense, that cold weather is caused by global warming, or that hot weather would be caused by global cooling? Both are just completely inane. The guy Masters must be losing it, or he thinks the “little people” (the public) are complete morons.

Consider the Ice Age. Was the ice age characterized by hot weather? No, but Masters probably thinks so. Was there any hot weather? No. Oh, I’ll bet somebody is going to say, why yes, there is evidence that there was some hot weather during the ice age just east of Timbuktu, and on Easter Bunny Island. Right.

    • gator69 says:

Ice Ages are a land based anomaly. The heat just goes into the deep oceans for 100,000 years, just waiting to deliver an optimal climate at a moments notice. Scary.

If you hold the chart at a 45-degree angle you can read the word “bogus”.

  13. Joe Bastardi says:

Of all the misinformation this guy has spouted and his ignorance or deceit, he has taken to a level that no one in their right mind can comprehend. Many in my field I have talked to about this are sitting in stunned disbelief at this

    • Dano says:

Stunned is putting it mildly, what about all those other low points on the chart, especially those 2 in the ’30’s, using Masters logic, the first one is from warming and the 2nd from cooling. No explanation is given for either. No science here.

  14. Paul says:

    Real gold, fools gold.
    Real cold, fools cold……..

A “Masters-stroke”, the new benchmark for climate stupidity.

  16. bazza says:

I tried masters theoty yesterday i put my hand on a hot plate on the top of the cooker thinking this will not be hot because hot is now the new cold,I kept saying this over and over to myself as they rushed me of to emergency with 3rd degree burns to my hand. BOLLOCKS this fool should be locked up for a long time.

  17. The Prof says:

Dang. I need to make up stories like that for my research. I would have had 20 papers published by now.

  18. richard smith says:

Marvellous graph Steven. Keep up the good work.

  19. Dave N says:

It can be easy to fool some people with scientificky talk, however “warming is causing cold” is one of those that starts out questionable and becomes progressively worse.

  20. BruceC says:

We must get rid of the 1940’s blip……..and the 1920’s…..and the 1930’s……and the 1890’s……oh bugger it! We must get rid of all blips prior to 1980.

  21. Fredric says:

Jeff Masters is employed by the University of Michigan, i.e: a public university that receives government funding. Nowadays this means that one has two choices, bow to the gods of human-caused global warming/”climate change” or hit the road.

He also now works for the Weather Channel or Weather Company or whatever it is now called. They have sold out completely to the powerful political movement that is not science and is known as the AGW movement. They now name winter storms because that makes people think of hurricanes which makes people think of the tropics which in turn makes one think of heat. So the full circle is accomplished as the frigid temperatures and frozen precipitation in winter storms are seen as a sign of rising heat, or so it is hoped.

Whether or not Dr. Masters is suffering from a prolonged bout of stupidity or is merely guilty of selling himself out to the highest bidder, you have to give him points for persistence. He is nothing if not inventive in continuously coming up with new and creative excuses for extreme cold and snow in the US and elsewhere. According to him, the arctic is now way too warm because all of the cold air has drained southward, where it is setting new record lows all across both major Northern Hemisphere landmass zones. This means that global warming is getting really, really scary, what with all that abnormal wintertime “heat” in the Arctic region!

  22. Andy DC says:

The flatness of the trend is far worse than we thought!

  23. Jim says:

The primary difference between Grand Solar Minima Cooling and global warming cooling is the dollar sign imposed before the string of global warming numbers.

  24. gator69 says:

Of course! Any grantologist will tell you that the graph above is irrefutable proof that more research is a life or death necessity.

  25. I now need a chart to explain…
    Natural warming
    Global cooling warm
    And global warming warm.
